Sebo update

Post by Schadenfreude »

I stumbled into some more info on the Sebo Center.

I believe they updated fans on the fundraising during the game. I believe $5.2 million has been raised out of the $9.2 million needed. (I'll stand corrected on those numbers).

Anyway, what I was told from someone in a position to know was that they won't start construction until 75 percent of the money needed is raised. That means they need to get to about $7 million.

They had hoped to start construction by now and have the thing open by opening day, 2006.

The goal is now to start work by the end of the season and have it open by the end of the 2006 season.

Thanks for the update. Like some of us have said before, seeing is believing. Now, I'm wishing we hadn't removed those bleachers in the north end zone yet.....it's such an eye sore right now. Oh well, when this thing ever gets started and finished, it will certainly be awesome. But it's just a tease for a lot of us now. I can't wait until they break ground on it.

You have the numbers correct. And I noticed in the program ad about the Sebo Center, it says "Coming Winter 2007". So that confirms what you heard about construction dates. :(

So given those numbers, BG needs to raise 1.7 million to start. That should be a number they use for a goal right now. I think you could convince more people to contribute (even if its just the 10$ they would rather save for their car or ipod  ) if they think the end/goal is closer than if they see 4 million needed. Splitting up things is not a bad idea. Nor is the goal of building this center. Lets not attack the Univ/AD for undertaking the project. It is a huge and lofty goal, would anyone really be happier if no one ever stepped up to start a fund to try to make this a reality. Personally I think 5.2 million is a big deal, when was the last time those numbers have been raised for the University. Why roll your eyes at that. If people are dissapointed it should only be because it isn't a reality yet. Sometimes in life things don't happen at the pace that is written down on a piece of paper.

WH,
I noticed that, too, on the last page of the program. Not the best news....
