Though I'll be happy to read your full report, it honestly couldn't mean as much as those two sentences.
I remember the opinions you alumni were posting a few years ago. And-- just, wow. Thank you. It means a lot.

I told Megan (Lead Flag Chick) that the Flag corp was the best I have seen in years. She looked at me like I just landed on this planet.FliccGirl wrote:Though I'll be happy to read your full report, it honestly couldn't mean as much as those two sentences.

I don't believe she saw it coming. But they were GOOOOOOOD! I would say they were tighter than any of the other flag corps outside of 1989 and 1990 (Brian Nutting years) and they were darn near that good.
Sound: awesome (a bit timid, but great balance and very, very warm.)
Fundies: 'bout as good as when I was in the band
Spirit: GREAT!
It appears as though the FMB is BACK, BABY!

I miss your CHEERING. The trumpets all sit down and don't cheer now. And they're in front!!!
Oh, and sorry I didn't say hi to any of you alumni..... I was kind of running off an hour and a half of sleep. But if you saw three flute players in the stands cheering and screaming their heads off during the game.... well, one of those is me.

Perspective: I believe the alumni's feelings were directed more towards the leadership (at the time) than towards the rank and file.FliccGirl wrote: I remember the opinions you alumni were posting a few years ago. And-- just, wow. Thank you. It means a lot.
Dr. Hayward deserves a great deal of respect - specifically from the alumni.

Oh, I know you guys weren't blaming the "rank and file." But the rank and file is what comprises the band, and even if it wasn't our fault, per se, we still weren't good-- we knew it and you knew it. And it's kind of depressing whether it's your fault or not.
I dunno, maybe it's the fact that I experienced the huge changes in the band firsthand, or that I'm leadership this year, or the fact that it's my last year marching that has me all sentimental. Probably a combination of all of the above.

You are one of the people that made it happen, Flicc.FliccGirl wrote: I dunno, maybe it's the fact that I experienced the huge changes in the band firsthand, or that I'm leadership this year, or the fact that it's my last year marching that has me all sentimental. I must concure with RUIT. Saturday was GREAT! You looked great, sounded great, and was a blast to watch. It was a thrill and a treat to finally be able to watch the FMB. I'm sorry I couldn't stick around and watch the post game antics, but it was wonderful to see what you guys have done! Keep up the great work, and I hope to see you soon!

Here are the highlights from the horribly written email I just sent to Dr. Hayward. I'm embarassed, but it's been a busy day. Serves me right.
I just wanted to drop you a message expressing my gratitude for a wonderful weekend. I had a great time and it was enjoyable to once again take the field of the Doyt along with my fellow old folks and the 'regular band.' Your students were accommodating and friendly - even the Maggots which was odd.
I also wanted to tell you of how fantastic the band looked, sounded, and behaved. I haven't seen that kind of spirit with band in a very long time.
Some high points whilst they are fresh in my mind:
*The flags are the best I have seen since at least 1989 and they may very well be better than I have ever seen. Tight, graceful, and flowing. I paid the lead flag chick (Megan) a direct complement. I'm not sure if she was offended or grateful. I suppose shock would be an appropriate description.
*The Percs have been and always will be good in my eyes. Entry was as good as I have seen it.
*During the final song of half-time, the baritone would snap the horn to their lips, play a phrase and snap the horn back to vertical. It's the little things, but that looked very sharp.
*The sound - LORD THE SOUND! Balanced, warm, and in tune. THAT is the sound of the Falcon Marching Band and I'm always proud when I hear that tradition continuing. Very well done!
Fundies: After a little bit of a rough start to pre-game, everything else was extremely good. Marching, spacing, and formations were all very nicely executed. The spinning blocks are never easy and were far better than when we tried them in back in 1990(?).
