MAC should finally get a I-A win this week, via Toledo

Post by BGSU33 »

I think Toledo will beat Temple this weekend to finally do what no MAC team has been able to do this year, beat a non-conference I-A team.

Lets not underestimate UT. Though I am inclined to think they can beat Temple, let us not forget The First Rule of the Toledo. "Whenever Toledo has something good happen, it will screw up something of equal or greater value." While what they screw up may not be the game against Temple, rest assured, something worse will happen if the don't.

The view from Philly:

Without getting into a lot of detail, Temple made some strides last week, but their weaknesses are clear. This is a team that has not been able to create any chemistry, so though they have a lot of weapons & tools, they are terribly inconsistent.

I've been warning people not to take Temple lightly in regards to BG's road trip, but I really don't see the Owls being able to pull it all together on the road. At home, maybe. On the road, I just don't see it happening.

Any talk of what they are going to do in terms of scheduling or conferences? Are they playing in the Stealers stadium?

Again, I don't see UT losing, but I can always hope. I think BG can handle itself on the road against Temple. In any case, its not a conference game.

The game will be played at the Eagles' Lincoln Financial Field. I predict a Falcon victory, of course. If the Rockets were playing Temple in Philly, I'd give the Owls a chance. They just aren't ready to win a game like this on the road.

It's hard for Toleod to screw up/fall apart after something good happens, when they have yet to do anything good. For Toledo, beating EMU by 10 and giving up 500+ of offense to them isnt something to be happy about other than the W, which is really expected for UT from an EMU-UT game.

Something will happen. They didn't lose, which for UT was a good thing. Dropping a game to Temple is unlikely. But it builds that karma thing for an even bigger fall later on.

I'll say this, if the spRockets get beat, their season is over.

To them however, their season won't be over til the play us. I am honestly thinking that beating us might be their only goal of the season.

It is hard to say what they will think. They seem to willing to flush their coach already. Any new blow would be enough to do them in for the year. However I think it will take the first couple of conference losses to really do it. Otherwise, like the scum that clings to boats, they'll stick around until scrapped off.

An article from CBSSportsline overviewing how rough the MAC's start has been this year.

by Dennis Dodd www.cbssportsline.com

Anesthetic!

Please, kill the pain, doc. The MAC has fallen, broken a hip and can't get up. Four of the nation's top seven losing streaks belong to MAC teams. Four of the league's 14 teams are No. 100 or worse in total defense. Its teams have lost all 29 games against non-conference I-A competition.

Toledo (1-2) has the best chance to break through when it plays host to Temple. Marshall (0-3) obviously overscheduled. It is playing tough, but has lost to Troy, Ohio State and Georgia. Still, the Herd might be the favorite to win the league.

Last year's game of the year, Bowling Green-Northern Illinois, will be played Friday night with a lot less fanfare. This will be both teams' chance to beat a I-A opponent.

Game of the year: Miami (Ohio) at Marshall, Sept. 29.

Hey now, we do play Temple ourselves ya know. Though little will come of that, because even if they are improved, they remain Temple. The rest of the world won't give us too much credit until they win a few games themselves.

I know we play Temple too. I was just relaying something I read on CBSSportsline. However, I do think that what this writer stated is what's going to be this year's stigma. Regrettably, the MAC hasn't beaten any top-tier BCS teams and that kind of kills the buzz created last year. That's not to say that BG can't have a great season and get some national recognition on its own, just not the rest of the MAC.
