Also, anyone got a picture of the new sweaters? If they look the way I think (and have been hoping they would) I may be dropping a large ammount of money when I'm back in November... 8)

If memory serves...typically early to mid Nov. I could be wrong, but I don't think it's anytime soon.

We never have a pep band at hockey until after football is over. Must be because there are so few musicians at BG. (Another topic I could rant on and on about....the lack of a pep band at ANY hockey game, that is!)

GOOD WIN, FALCONS!!
"Regarding BGSU, I would think their biggest strength is that they never give up, They never slow down and they battle hard even after the other team scores. We have to be on our game and never, ever take the foot off the gas for a second."

"BG was relentless. It's like they know that a good first pass on the breakout from a defenseman will almost always result in an odd-man rush against them - but they go in anyway and dare you to make that pass. All three of their goals were just grit and effort. That's a team any fan can be proud to support...they give all they've got."

Couple more thoughts from me:

I am interested to see the orange jerseys- will they have BOWLING GREEN on the front or will they also have the falcon. (Sorry for no pics, I left my camera in the other car)

Unger needs to communicate more. I counte 2-3 times in the opening period alone where he was right on top of someone else. That may be hunger to go get the puck, but when we can send one man to get it , we should.

I also like the energy with this team. Good things could happen this season. I am interested to see us take on an NCAA foe.

They're essentially the opposite of the old sweaters with the new BGSU font for the lettering. So, yes, the orange sweaters will have Bowling Green on the front instead of the Falcon head. They'll also have the Falcon heads on the shoulders instead of the interlocking BGs.

(1) Really nice to see the scoring spread around. Whitmore had 2, Matsumoto, Unger, Unger, Barnett, Pilk and Nesdil each adding one. I hope the scoring gets spread around like that all year - we'd be damn close to unstopable!
Well according to this Bleeding we scored 8 goals!!!

Whitmore 2
Matsumoto 1
Unger 2
Barnett 1
Pilk 1
Nesdil 1

To me that adds up to 8

Pretty good game....

Post by Falconboy »

By the falcons icers last night. Wished we could've put one more on em' in last few minuets but oh well. We seem to have very good speed all around. I heard some assistant coach on the 88.1 post show saying someting about guys like Matsumoto losing 30lbs to get in better shape. Better shape? Holy crap he's only 5'11 and like 185 or something, what was he before? The guys are sure gonna be tested for real vs Merrimack and totally for Boston College, it cool we get these guys in our place. I have no idea how good Windser is but I'm guessing not particulary great so a real test comes the next 2 games.

My guess is he was 6'3 215lbs. They also needed to shrink some. In all seriousness 5'11 185 is a good build, and can contain quite some muscle. You don't have to weigh a lot to be strong. Case in point, gymnasts. My brother is about 5'9 maybe 175, yet last time I really talked to him about it (maybe his freshman year in college) he did reps bench pressing 225. I have no doubt him and some of the other guys on his team (PSU, he was the tallest too could put up 300, thats pushing close to 2x body weight. These guys aren't trying to eat up blocks, they want to be fast and strong.

Matsumoto's biggest problem last year was wind. He could score almost at will but had to short shift because he was winded (yet he still scored 30+ points). Look for his point production to be significantly higher this year!

Which I'm guessing losing that much weight should help him alot in that area. You definitly don't want alot of excess fat on you playing hockey. Muscle is where its at.

Those little fellers with the stubby arms are biomechanically better suited to bench than normal sized people like me with normal length arms. They're not strong, nature is helping them cheat!
