What's scary about Ohio???

Post by BelieveNBG »

The fact that they run the ball with success alot is scary. The good thing is that they have given up quite a few pts. to the opposing teams.

In their MAC opener, Ohio (2-2) rushed for 373 yards against the Golden Flashes. Sophomore Kalvin McRae's led the offense with a career-high 200 rushing yards. Junior Voncarie Owens also recorded a career high with 139 yards. Both backs ran for two touchdowns.

The Bobcats posted 518 yards of total offense in its win versus Kent State. It was the first time Ohio reached the 500-yard mark since going for 550 against Eastern Michigan in 2002. The Bobcats' total offense output was the eighth-best in school history. The Bobcats ran for 373 yards against the Golden Flashes, the most since running for 418 in the 2002 game versus Eastern Michigan. Ohio's rushing total was the 10th-best single-game effort in the nation this season. Some other fun facts about Ohio's day on offense include ...

• The Bobcats had more total yardage (260) and rushing yardage (179) at halftime than they had in any one of the first three games. Entering the Kent State game, Ohio's best total offense day was 239 yards at Northwestern, and the best rushing game was 94 yards against Pittsburgh.

• Ohio's four rushing touchdowns were the most for the Bobcats since scoring four times on the ground versus Kent State in 2003.

Perhaps, but Kent also torched OU's secondary for 388 yards in the air.

If OU has to play catch-up, they may very well be toast. I said that about Wisconsin, but OU isn't Wisconsin.

What's scary about Ohio U. & this game in particular?

 Their running game, as you mentioned. The Bobcats thrive on long, time-consuming drives. They had four drives cover more than 80 yards against Kent. They have a decent-sized offensive line (averaging 6-3/293).

 Interesting stat: Four backs have gained more than 100 yards against the Falcons. Boise State is the only opponent who didn't have a 100-yard rusher, though they rushed for 337 as a team.

 Their passing game is limited, but they protect the QB very well, allowing just six sacks over the first four games. That is somewhat mitigated by their five INTs.

 Solich has them playing disciplined football. You won't see a bunch of silly, pre-snap flags like you did with Temple.

 Solich has had two weeks to prepare for this game and he knows just how important it is. His team made a statement against Pitt and is looking to make another one in his first game against a top-shelf MAC opponent. He won't be outcoached.

Great quote from this article:

Solich will have to prepare himself as the Bobcats face offensive juggernaut Bowling Green. Falcon quarterback Omar Jacobs has thrown for a total of 1,432 yards so far this season, which is 278 yards more than the entire Bobcat offense (1,154 yards) has managed in its first four games.

Of course when Omar is the primary source of scoring and with such an anemic running game , that shouldnt' really be surprising. This Ohio game could be tough. Again their running game concerns me.

GO FALCONS!!!!!!!!!!!!! SMASH THE BOBKITTIES!!!!!!!!!!! :supz:

I happen to think averaging 70 more yards passing per game than the entire Ohio Offense is a notable achievement. I am sorry that you do not agree.

It is, but not being able to run the ball proved to be a real problem earlier this season.

Yeah, true. Lovett mixed things up a bit early in the Temple game, but I wouldn't be surprised to see him throw a few more wrinkles into the Ohio gameplan.

The coeds. Definitely the coeds. That and the preponderance of my relatives who went to school there.

You can't possibly be serious after watching all of the mid-game adjustments we've made this year, not to mention Brandon proclaiming on the radio on Monday that our defense had made "significant strides" against Temple after giving up many 3rd and mid-range running plays and getting absolutely no penetration.
