As long as that Byrum kid looks like a total chump when walking out of The Doyt on Saturday, I'll be happy.

Byrum
LOL...Dion won't be looking like a chump, I'd bet on that before I bet on the game. This is a great matchup...Byrum is on the watch list for two very prestigious awards. And supposedly you have a qb and a couple wr's who can play, lol
Anything can happen folks, that's why they play the game. Good luck to yall and thanks to all the good people on this site, I've enjoyed posting here this week. After this week I wish ya all the luck in the world.

Re: Byrum
Ditto, bobcatgrad. It has been nice to have some fun, reasoned banter with some in-conference fans. You may not like this, but in many ways I liken your posts to those that Miami fans make around here on a regular basis. You'll probably start acting like a jerk now (understandably) just to be different, but it was intended to be a compliment!bobcatgrad wrote:LOL...Dion won't be looking like a chump, I'd bet on that before I bet on the game. I don't think BGSU will get 50 on Frank's defense. Va Tech had 45 and BGSU doesn't have the running attack, recievers,D-line, O-line, special teams, or secondary that Va Tech had. Also, the Doyt isn't as loud as Blacksburg. Ohio contained Vick for the most part. Jacobs is a lot like Vick.
This isn't Temple or the 2002 Ohio squad that got torched by BGSU. Ohio will try to run the ball and shorten the game. If Ohio can run the ball, there will be less opportunities to run up the score. Ohio has the secondary to slow down BG a bit. Jacobs can't just sling it around the field, because Ohio leads the MAC in picks. BGSU will be carefull and may try to run more whiuch will use up the clock as well. BGSU will get a lead and play it safe. Ohio's best offense has been intereception returns. BG would be dumb to throw the ball once they get up by 21 points or more. They don't want to risk a QUICK SIX by Byrum and get Ohio back into the game. Va Tech was very carefull of Ohio's secondary after watching Palko throw int after int into that Ohio zone coverage.

Jacobs doesn't really "sling it around the field". With a few exceptions, he's shown to be ridiculously careful with the ball, knowing when to tuckit or eat it or throw it off Bill's Hill.oubobcatjohn wrote:Jacobs can't just sling it around the field, because Ohio leads the MAC in picks.
And I hope we get a chance to see how BG plays with a 21 point lead.

Also something that OU fans might want to keep in mind is that OU's d-line is nothing compared to Wisconsin's and Temple's. Say what you will about Temple, but the only possible bright spot that team has is a sizeable, athletic d-line. Are they being used to their potential under the current Temple defensive scheme? Certainly not - no one on that team is. But, they are still big and fast, and our O-line handled them pretty damn well. Same goes for Wisconsin, which is a much better example. You'll not see an offense in years that can protect a quarterback the way our O-line did against that defense. We thought they were young early on in the year, but they have since proven that they are a very capable unit.
That being said, this game could still be close, but it won't be because of Ohio's d-line or secondary scheme. OU has not faced an offense yet this year that throws as many recieving routes at their secondary as BG will. VAtech is a good team, but they do not run an offense nearly as complex as BG's. Also, even if OU's DB's and d-linemen are getting good penetration, one of the strengths of BG's offense is the ability to hit the checkdown reciever quickly when the QB is under pressure. Our recievers, TE's and TB's all possess adeptness at catching the football, and there is no defensive scheme on earth that can account for them all while still getting adequate pressure on the QB. That is why our offensive scheme works so well.
Now, I'm not saying that any of this is certain to happen, as nothing is certain in any sport. The success of our offense hinges on the QB's ability to read through his read succession and hit the open reciever. I happen to be confident because there is no one in the country better at cycling through reads than Omar. 8)

you guys keep talking about O
Really...enough abou the offense. We really need to just have a kicking contest to see who wins. Think about it people. Instead of a game lasting 3-4 hrs, we could have the fun continue for days, possibly weeks. Either first one to kick 3 XP's in a row, or first to make a 30 yrd field goal. Imagine the excitement!!!
If you're counting on BG's passing offense to resemble Pitt or Viriginia Tech, you're in for a long, long game.
Dion Byrum might jump those routes against Tyler Palko at home on a Friday night, but with O4 at the Doty he'll be watching their numbers sprint into the endzone.
A team needs loads of talent and a hurculean effort to have a chance of beating BG at home. I don't see Ohio as being able to match up.

lol
The thing is, I give BG credit for having a great qb and some great wr's. Everyone on here is trying to discount Dion's ability and say it is just because of who he has played. If that were the case, would he be on the watch lists for the prestigious awards that he is? nope. would he be the 2x mac defensive player of the week? nope. I look forward to seeing a great matchup. IMO, this is the best secondary that Jacobs will see all year, you will find out alot about him today. Dion will hold his own, the true test will be how TJ Wright, the other corner, will hold up today. BG will undoubtably throw away from Dion a majority of the day. The play of TJ and the rest of the secondary will be who is truely tested. Also, I never stated BG resembles anything close to Pitt or VT. Pitt is obviously not the team they were ranked to be at the beginning of the season, and as far as VT, both our teams could only dream of that talent. I hate to say it, but its true. I was at the VT game and was very impressed. I agree BG presents a different and very formidable challenge for this team. This will be the yardstick that we are measured against. Good luck to yall and of course...Go CATS!
Why don't we just hand him the Jim Thorpe Award now and get it over with? These "watchlists" you are enamored with contain lots of players and are at least partially indicative of the effort the SID has made to get the name out. If it's just about what players are on watchlists, BG has one for just about every unit on the team, including punter!
We'll see what happens this evening.
