Opening Kickoff

This was a scary matchup for BGSU coming in, and the Bobcats had a chance to gain momentum right away. Ohio (2-3, 1-1) recovered Anthony Turner's fumble on the opening kickoff and started with the ball on the Falcons' 4-yard line.

Yikes. I don't like that.

Seemed like a bad call by the coaching staff. No need for trickeration, especially when you have an O like we do. We escaped unscathed but if make those kinds of mistakes against Miami and/or Toledo we are going to lose.

I don't mind the trickeration because they look oh so nice when they work, but my goodness putting your back up quarterback on the field for kick returns is a bit risky, don't you think?

Is he out there for a lot of kicks? Or did they sneak him out there and perhaps he was going to laterally throw the ball on a kick off?

Funny...I pointed that out to Hammb before the kick that he was out there and said it was stupid to have Turner out there for risk of injury. When I saw the replay and then knew why he was out there. We also tried to run something similar to that play against Temple and they botched that as well. Do you think we played Toledo and left that out of the game film and script we sent to Ohio? Doubtful.

I pointed out last week that Turner was out there for every kick return. It is absolute lunacy to put your backup QB out there in that situation.

First, do we even have a third string QB? If Turner gets hurt on a kick return, what happens if Jacobs went down? We cant run the direct snap to LANE on every play, can we?

Second, the way they use Turner on the play make the chance of injury even greater. HE TURNS HIS BACK TO THE COVERAGE. He is just standing there waiting to get wacked and will never see it coming.

Third, Did we not learn anythign having our top two RBs getting hurt on the same kick return that you can't just throw anybody out there. Yes, I want our best players out there for special teams. But, you have to use a little common sense about who actually is out there.

We have 4 players that can play QB, but that brings in the possibility of losing red shirts.

Yeah, when I saw the highlights of the game on the news and saw that it was Turner in there and with his back to the coverage, I nearly had a brain anyrism, I was in totall disbelief that we would run a play like that and with our #2 qb no less.

That's my point. You want to hand this offense over to a true freshmen? That is why it is just plain stupid to take a chance with Turner back there.

Maybe I wouldn't be so adamant about this if Turner was back deep and actually was running the kick back. But he is in that at up back back and all you need that guy to do is block. Do you think there is anyone else on the that could possibly block better then the back up QB???

But again, this points back to our stupid special teams plays. Always trying to outdo ourselves with something new. Just catch the ball and go. Quick trying to be so damn fancy.

Yeah come on guys -- it's not like people really get hurt on special teams. I mean, we should probably put our all-MAC running back in as an upback too. He's pretty durable. I'm sure that would be fine......

I don't have a problem with him being out there if he would actually use his athletic ability and return the kick. To put him out there as a decoy for some kind of trick play is stupid.
