fun with truth serum
If you guys could get someone associated with our program (or the MAC, I guess), to answer one question competely truthfully, what would it be?
I was thinking about this last night. This is what I would ask Paul Krebs:
"Admit it, the 'jumbo' tron looked a lot bigger in the store, didn't it?"
I'm glad we have the thing. We were harping on getting one for years, and Krebs made it happen. I totally appreciate that.
But, jeez, it's small. I sit at the 50, and the replays are useless. My buddy, an Ohio U. grad who came with me to the game, dubbed it the "Microtron." It's easier to see live action from anywhere in the stadium than it is to make out a replay on the Microtron.
Seems to me we may want to rethink how we use the thing. Couldn't we use it more for scores and stats and less for replays?
Again, I'm glad I have it. But, the way I see it, a jumbotron is still on our long term to-do list. If we ever get a decent-sized one, maybe we could take what we have and move it into another spot in the stadium for scores and stats....

I think it would do a world of good if the video board was lower. I know they *saved* $ by using the existing scoreboard supports, but with nothing around it (stands, tees, berm) it appears even smaller than it is.
If it were lower I think it wouldn't be so obviously smallish looking.
I looked up to try and get a nice look at the 41yd td pass to Chuck and could barely make him out.
Also, the replays *I believe* are bing taken directly from the BCSN telecasts so they are formated to be seen on your television (i.e. they don't really zoom in where you would want them to on a jumbo tron.

Also, Why don't we show ESPN or just some other game while we are warming up? I know some schools will show other games before theirs on the jumbotronSchadenfreude wrote: Couldn't we use it more for scores and stats and less for replays?

I would like to ask people in the MAC offices why the Motor City Bowl is the reward for the MAC Champs when the team played there only three weeks before in the MACC game and the GMAC Bowl is clearly the superior bowl experience for both fans and players?
This is not to knock the MCB, but there seem to be some circumstances surrounding it that would make it a little bit less of an experience relative to the GMAC Bowl for the school that wins the conference.

I mentioned this last year. Our videoboard is WAY too small! Yes, I'm glad we have one, but it's the smallest one I've seen for football so far. I think the videoboard should be as big as the current one we have plus all the signage around it. That way, you'd actually be able to see it. The size it is now, it's about useless. Look at the size of even Miami's (yes, Miami-Ohio), it's way bigger than ours. And here's the best part - you can actually see it. Do I like having one as opposed to not having one? Yes, sure. But what good is having something you really can't use (or see)? It would be like getting a new car and not having keys to start it.....nice to have it, but what good is it's purpose in the long run. This videoboard should be in Anderson Arena, not Doyt L. Perry Stadium.Schadenfreude wrote:If you guys could get someone associated with our program (or the MAC, I guess), to answer one question competely truthfully, what would it be?

Knowing that the video board is small, maybe they need better video clips to replay. It would help if they would zoom in on the plays and then the videos would be larger. They seem to film everything from a view that shows the field from sideline to sideline. Do we only have one camera? Maybe they need one that zooms in and follows the ball for the mere purpose of replay.
I think the TV feed for the replays makes a difference. When a network like ESPN broadcasts a gmae, you get much better angles and shots for replay. When BCSN is covering the game, you get crap for replays. None the less, the board is still too small.

That's a good idea, but it's tricky. I think it would be great to get another MAC game up there... but I would have a real problem with putting a certain Big Ten team up there.BGSUVA wrote:Also, Why don't we show ESPN or just some other game while we are warming up? Technically, I think the bowls rotate first pick in alternating years. But there doesn't seem to be much relationship between winning the MAC title and getting one bowl or the other.Bleeding Orange wrote:I would like to ask people in the MAC offices why the Motor City Bowl is the reward for the MAC Champs when the team played there only three weeks before in the MACC game and the GMAC Bowl is clearly the superior bowl experience for both fans and players?

(Incidentally, I think Rocketfootball says he saw GMAC Bowl scouts in Toledo yesterday.)
I've been to both bowl games, and I've got to admit that the Mobile is by far the better travel experience.
But we need to be super careful, because there is a long tragic history of the MAC losing bowl tie ins. Our league lost the Tangerine Bowl after 1975, and we lost the Las Vegas Bowl tie after 1996.
The Motor City Bowl is much stronger than any of those bowl games were when we participated. If we treat it right, it will be there for us forever.
And, in some years, I think the Motor City Bowl is a bigger reward. Think about it: If we can get a Big Ten lined up in Detroit, would we rather go there -- or play Central Florida* or Alabama-Birmingham* in Mobile?
I think our players would rather take on the Big Ten team. Sign me up, too.
As far as the MAC title game -- I still kind of wish we could have come up with a different location for the reason you mention. But I know the league really studied it and concluded Detroit was best. Maybe, after a couple of years, another city will come up with a better proposal.

When they announced the updated score the other night for PSU/OSU, I let out a big cheer and this lady in front of me turned around and gave me the dirtiest look. I mean, if looks could kill....So basically I just blew it off but thought it was funny. Sorry if I don't worship at the Altar of Woody.
Penn State looks good. Anyone can win that conference...wide open.

When they announced the score, I cheered of course. The yahoo in front of me (in his OSU jacket) turned slightly and said "there's plenty of time left". I wish I had a nickel for every person wearing Scarlet & Gray at the Doyt on Saturday and a dime for every person listening to the Suckeyes on their radio headsets and not paying attention/cheering for BG.Falconfreak90 wrote:SF,Schadenfreude wrote:That's a good idea, but it's tricky.
