Post by BGSU33 »

I picked up another preseason basketball magazine, this one the Sporting News. Basically, it’s pretty much the same as all the other magazines with Ohio this, Ohio that….Ohio, Ohio, Ohio. It also had BG picked last in the MAC East. Here’s a breakdown of the magazine:

Newcomer of the Year: Johnnie Jackson, Ohio (Boston College transfer to Ohio)
Top-20 Centers Nationally: Leon Williams, Ohio, ranked #18 (scary thing is, he’s just a Soph.)
Top-20 PG Nationally: Jeremy Fears, Ohio, ranked #20 (He’s just a sophomore too)
MAC Tournament/NCAA Qualifier: Ohio

MAC First Team
Leon Williams, Ohio
Peyton Stovall, Ball State
DeAndre Haynes, Kent State
Romeo Travis, Akron
John Bowler, EMU

MAC Second Team
Jeremy Fears, Ohio
Mychal Green, Ohio
Darryl Peterson, Akron
Kevin Warzynski, Kent State
Yassin Idbihi, Buffalo

MAC East
1. Ohio
2. Akron
3. Kent State
4. Buffalo
5. Miami
6. Bowling Green

MAC West

2. Ball State
3. WMU

All of these magazines should be listed under the title: "2005-2006 College Basketball Preview...Based Entirely On What Teams Did Last Year"

Yeah, with all of the talent in our incoming freshmen class (Dusan especially), I suspect this team will suprise more than a lot of people this year.

There is no reason that we should be pessimistic at this point, especially if this team possesses half of the good shooters people like Metz say we have. I for one trust Metz a lot more than I trust these highly subjective and commercially-driven magazines.
