Sebo center donation?
Sebo center donation?
This is something that came up during the game Saturday, and was wondering if anyone else had any thoughts on the subject. When Mr. & Mrs. Sebo were announced during the game they talked about the funding for the project, etc. I said to those around me, "I should give 'em $10"
Then I realized that I have no idea how to give 'em $10 if I truly did WANT to give 'em $10. I just checked bgsufalcons.com and there is a small writeup about the center, and an e-mail addy for more information, but nothing on where to send donations or anything.
Am I the only one who thinks it would be a good idea to put up some sort of donation boxes at the football games? You could have a large setup with information about the center and a locked box to throw money into. Info on who to make checks payable to, etc. I realize that somebody then has to count the cash or cash the checks, but it would seem worth it to me. If we got an average of $2 per person, per game that's like $150k over the course of the season (assuming only 15k attendance avg.). I know I would be likely to throw $5-$10 in there every game.
I don't want to sound overly negative on the fund campaign, but it seems to me that a collection of 15k+ BG fans is a pretty good time/place to put up an area to donate towards the campaign...
Just thought I'd throw that out there...

Sound reasonable. In the meantime however, you can go to http://giving.bgsu.edu/development/fund ... giving.jsp to make an online donation. You can earmark the money for whatever cause you see worthy of your donation, including the Sebo Athletic Center. Just select "Other" and then fill in Sebo Center if that's where you decide to donate.
That's a hell of an idea, hammb.... I think that the people who may squirm at the thought of handing a chunk of cash over to the University (be it $50, $100 or something more substantial) might be likely to drop a five or so in a box at the stadium. Maybe run a promo for the donation boxes on the scoreboard during a timeout or two, possibly set up a main kiosk with a box and information on the project inside the East gates. They might be surprised how much cash they bring in from an effort like that. And if it bombs, all they're out is the effort of setting the boxes out.

It is a good idea. I think I tried throwing this idea out there in one of my rants at FB last week or so, but yours is presented much better. To me this is the best way to raise money from the masses right now. I too would probably throw 5 or 10 bucks in each game I went to, (maybe more since I only make 1 or 2 at home a year right now). Probably wouldn't be bad to do it at basketball and hockey games, since the facility is supposed to be for all athletes.

Nice idea....
Hammb! I could be inclined to throw a couple of bucks in there on the games I attend. That is a very good idea , what chance is there of something like that happening?

I think they will use those types of ideas, once they get a little closer to the final figure. It would take 400,000 $10 donations to raise the rest of the money, and I believe they want to get the "major" donors comitted plus the "naming" rights for the individual facilities and rooms, prior to going public for the smaller donations. This is just a hunch, but it is the way most major fund raising projects are attacked.
True, although with the amount raised seeming a bit stagnant at this time, maybe boosting the number this way will get to a figure where major donors can see the end in sight and donate the difference.factman wrote:I think they will use those types of ideas, once they get a little closer to the final figure. It might not be a bad move to work this one a little "backwards" to get the money flowing again.

That's kind of what I was thinking TG. I know that factman is pointing out how it would usually work, and I realize that something like this is not a feasible way to create the rest of the funds. However, as TG alluded to, it could be that seeing the BG community rally around something like this might spark a big donor or two.TG1996 wrote:True, although with the amount raised seeming a bit stagnant at this time, maybe boosting the number this way will get to a figure where major donors can see the end in sight and donate the difference.factman wrote:I think they will use those types of ideas, once they get a little closer to the final figure. You wanna get students to donate? Make it bursarable...they'll buy anything if it is bursarable.
Honestly it just hit me Saturday that I didn't know what I had to do to donate to the Sebo center, and thought that there were a lot of other fans in my same situation. What's more there are a LOT of fans that know nothing of the center. I'm 2 for 2 now with having to explain the center to those around me at the games.
As I said, I'm not knocking the campaign that they're running, I'm sure there is a lot going on behind the scenes, just throwing out what I thought would be a good way to get some more money into the project's coffers. I know that I'm very excited about seeing the stadium nearly enclosed on the one end, I'm certainly willing to give them some money towards it.

I love the initiative here. This is a great idea, and it is a great way to invest people in this project. Just think, if you donate even a modest ammount to this project, you will have a sense of ownership and association everytime you see the building, and rightfully so. I really do think this is one of the best ideas I have heard in a long, long time.
To compliment this project, the AD might want to think about putting together a small 30 second spot to be played on the videoboard prior to the game, during timeouts and during halftime. There is no reason that one person at a BG game should not know about this project, and I suspect that it just hasn't been as "in their face" as it could be.
I am still extremely optomistic about this project, and the fact that there is popular support for this project is fantastic. There is no donation too small to a project like this.
Think of this, perhaps in addition: try actively pooling resources around here with the goal of raising enough money for naming rights to a room in the building. We could get a room called "The www.ayziggyzoomba.com Room," or simply a room named after "The Fans." I think that would be unbelievable if we could make it work.

Um....I think we could afford a door knob. Possibly a toilet stall. A whole room? Not too sure...

From everyone experiences here, should we present ONE e-mail with our suggestions to the athletic department? Or is a flood of SEVERAL of them better?
I think if Brian writes something up we can all add our names and e-mail addresses to it...kind of like a petition thing.
Whatdya all think?
