Third bowl game REALLY in the works for the MAC

Post by 1987alum »

The MAC report has the scoop!

Read the summary!

Great to hear this being talked about in the open as an eventuality, not as a concept.

This would be great news. I only wish it was already in place this year. But next year would be much better than never.

WTF is wrong with you? I'd lay off the paint chips.

WTF is wrong with you? We would rake in a bundle of more cash in japan than in Toronto. Now where is it...oh yes...your cup of the cool-aid....

Unfortunately THIS is the attitude of 95% of the college football world. Every year the bowls come around and talk radio and what not are discussing how there are too many bowl games. They always talk about how teams that are 6-5 are in bowls and shouldn't be. OF course they don't discuss that there are worthy mid-major teams that got left out so that 6-5 team could be there, but that's besides the point.

I would be much happier if the NCAA changed the bowl eligibility requirements to make less bowl eligible teams, thus allowing the good mid majors to get into a bowl in lieu of the mediocre BCS teams, but that isn't happening.

I like the idea that we are predicted to have a choice beyond the normal ones that the MAC is slotted for....could be an indication that the guru's expect us to have the number one choice (i.e. MAC Champions).

In the end I would prefer something easy to travel to....Detroit. This is based on traveling all the way to the Gulf Coast last December. But is rational to expect that many found that to be a great junket and want to repeat, or for those who missed last year and want to go this time.

Still too premature to make any predictions, and being 3rd best in the MAC is no guarantee of going anywhere. We could very well be 8-3 and stay home only to watch a 6-5 Big east or Conference USA team get creamed in a bowl.

I like the idea of Toronto. It's within fairly easy distance of most of the MAC schools making for a relatively inexpensive trip. We took the train there for a hockey tournament one year and had a blast.

1st of all the media and radio announcers are idiots and don't really know and love football like true fans.

The reason bowl games are great, is it forces teams that would otherwise not get a chance to play each other to actually play each other. So for the individual schools it is meaningfull.

I can tell MACMAN is young and doesn't really get it.

Getting a chance to play and beat Fresno St., Nevada, Northwestern & Memphis was meaningful to us and our program. As long as these bowls match various conferences then I will always enjoy it. By the way, this applies to all conferences. For example, how many different teams have we seen Ohio State or Michigan play over the years. It's fun to see the match-ups, and anyone who doesn't think so, isn't a true college football fan.

lol 35 and geting it. Another Bowl does nothing but help to further entrench the BCS and the 500 teams that get Bowl Games. Example....the Big 10s avoidance and open ended contract with the motor city bowl.

The real solution is playoffs, but since "fans of the game" keep encouraging and celebrating additional bowls that accomplish nothing but fund raising. Playoffs will never happen as long as fans of the game dont get it. Not getting it, is not understanding that in order to achieve a real contest for a National Championship, the bowl system as we know it must be totaly dismantled, and fresh look of confrence champions vs confernce champions where by each confernce has at least one legit chance to compete on the field of play where game play of the day determins champions and not the electorate.
Another bowl, esp one in toronto is well in a word...meaningless. I would rather see the motor city bowl drop the big ten and pick up a Confrence Champion from another mid program ( a phrase which would disovle by the way with playoffs).

So go ahead support the fund raising effort of another bowl but dont celebrate it as if the holiday bowl just droped a 600 team for the MAc Champions, or that this bowl game would have any more meaning than fund raising...money that will be well spent mind you on MAC sports, but it does nothing to elevate the MAC programs, and that is getting it.
and if you were a true fan of sport and the Athlets who play them you would demand a playoff system and not celebrate a discriminatory bowl match up system that picks who wears the Crown and not encourage it, that is of course unless you also are fighting to elminate the crowning of a false National Champion, and encouraging strictly a Bowl match up system where by teams that normaly will not play, play.
