Special Teams?
Special Teams?
Missed extra point...30-yard punt....two kick-offs out of bounce. Somewhere down the line these units are going to cost us a ballgame.
Great job by the defense today!

Re: Special Teams?
Boy am I getting tired of hearing this each week. Wish the coaches woult do something different to remedy this.Rollo83 wrote: Somewhere down the line these units are going to cost us a ballgame.

I'm getting tired of hearing it too, but not as tired as I am of seeing it happen week after week after week. Question....why in the world can't we line up in a standard punt formation and just punt the ball away like most teams do? Nate is kicking for his life back there!!! He's got no time at all and the punts are almost always blocked. We got bailed out twice with UB penalties when they clobbered him after two kicks. I can't understand why we line up and punt the way we do.
GO BG!!!

For those of you who watch High School football. Are there any good kickers in Ohio? Do you ever see any of them kick it into the endzone? Why can't college kickers do this? Are they that weak?
If Notre Dame and Penn State could have done that, they might have won today.
Maybe we can help scout and recruit a strong leg for our beloved Falcons. The leg might not even be on the football field. It is likely on the "fast kicking low scoring" soccer field.
Not being able to kick it into the endzone drives me nuts.

Very frustrating seeing those kickoffs out of bounds and another missed extra point. After Fry had a kickoff go out of bounds, Timchenko got a chance to kick...did a decent job.
I hold my breath every time Fry goes back to punt. Never a dull moment!

There apparently is a good kicker in Salem Ohio (near Alliance).
On the subject of Special teams....anyone notice that Toledo got a punt blocked for a TD this past weekend.
And just in case it gets left out of game films...they tried 2 fake punts, both passes by the punter. One was for a big gainer, the other was incomplete.

Doesn't Toledo line up in that same punt formation that we do? If so, I'm not at all surprised they had a punt blocked. While watching the Toledo vs. Freson State game, the announcers said the Fresno State coaches said pregame they were going to block one of Toledo's punts with that formation. Guess what? THEY DID. I hate that formation! If Fry even so much as bobbles the snap, he will get crushed back there because he has no time and is always under a ton of pressure. Nearly all of his punts are blocked and I'm not blaming him, I'm blaming the formation. You watch us try and block other teams when they punt, like Ohio for example, they have all day and aren't lined up like we are. We will get another punt blocked this year, if not more.
GO BG!!!
Or, more appropriately, "All of his punts are nearly blocked."BGSU33 wrote:Nearly all of his punts are blocked...
Semantics make a big bit of difference in this example.

John Wasmund, senior, 6'1" 210 the kicker for the Westerville North football team here in Columbus kicks it into the endzone consistantly. He is money he made a 35 yard field goal and a 47 yard field goal with plenty of room to spare. Has yet to miss an extra point attempt and has not been blocked on a punt. He also plays hoops.Falcon52 wrote:For those of you who watch High School football. Are there any good kickers in Ohio? Do you ever see any of them kick it into the endzone?
