I think our defense helped with that a little bit. After his first TD run, I turned to the g/f and said "this little $@#!&-er is going to make a name for himself tonight". I was hoping I'd be wrong.

Though she might have had the line of the night, after they talked about him being ineligible for last year because of academics, he had a long run and she said "he's gotta get them all in before mid-terms".

And what was with the DB (or was it LB) that works as a campus DJ and gets paid for it? They said it was minimum wage (in comparison to the $25/hr janitorial jobs in Huntington), but isn't there still rules about athletes making ANY kind of money?

Any athlete can get a job. Obviously, football is such a commitment that it can be tough to find the time. But the NCAA has no rule against kids getting jobs.

The issues in Huntington: These were very lucrative jobs, well beyond what any other janitor in the community was making, supplied by a wealthy booster. Also, there was often little evidence that work was being done.

Remember a few years ago when that rule changed. . .Ten years ago players could not hold jobs at all during the school year.

If you have been around for a while you may recall a few BGSU players were working as bouncers at a bar downtown and they kicked the crap out of some kid. . . .

The jobs are ok as long as the pay is comperable to what other make. . . no $50 an hour computer lab attendents.

that's what I thought, and $5.25 an hour or whatever is no big thing, I'm glad there is leeway (sp?) like that so kids CAN get a job. Though with that rule in place, and even knowing the commitment football takes, it shows that if you're creative about where to find work, it can be done. It seems the biggest argument people make for "stipends" for athletes is "these kids can't even get a job so they can buy a pizza or go out and have a drink with some friends." you don't need a job that pays $12 an hour, or works ya 40 hours a week. If its too much commitment to find a job, it should be too much of a commitment to go out running around the town, right?
