Any update on P.J. Pope?

Post by BGSU33 »

Just wondering if anyone has heard how P.J. was doing? Is he expected to play vs. WMU, or is he expected to need more time?

Im no expert, but personally I would rest Pope atleast til the Akron game. I dont see the out come of the game changing because of Pope playing or not. Western is ranked 109/117 in scoring D. Lane should have another big game and Omar should get back on track.

Pope has 2 sprained ankles. Sprains just dont go away. This is a nagging injury that will last the whole season. One bad cut and Pope reaggivates the injury. I assume they are really bad sprains because he didnt even attempt to reenter the Wisconsin game after this occurred. What it comes down to is pain tolerance and heart, if both are high Pope can gut it out. Right now Lane is the better back, Pope should rest.

I would rather have Pope rest for a month and be ready for UT and beyond (when we need that second quality back) then have him play in games BG is favored by 20 to win.

But of couse, im no expert.

Brandon said on his Monday radio interview that he hoped PJ would be able to go this week but that he might still be a week away.

We all know PJ is chompin at the bit to get on the field. But if he isn't 100%, I'd rest him another week. We NEED a healthy Pope!!

Agreed. We're blessed to have an good, experienced back who is running like B.J. Lane and a capable freshman in Thomas. We need the Popemobile to be hitting on all cylinders when we head to Oxford!

87,

This is no dig on Lane or Thomas. Lane has been excellent this year and solid for his career...and Thomas looks to have a bright future. But Pope just causes nightmares for opposing DC's. He does everything so well.

I also think what makes Pope so valuable to us is he's also a very good receiver out of the backfield. I love what Lane has shown and Thomas has also done a nice job. I hope too we can rest PJ this week and get him as close to 100 percent and ready to go as we can.

Chester Taylor had two high ankle sprains that cost him most of a year. He had some kind of collagen injection in the tendons, I think. Seemed to turn out OK for him if Sunday was any indication, but the high sprains are apparantly the worst kind . Hope he gets to come back for at least part of his senior season.

You are right on that! I had a high ankle sprain a couple years ago and, #1, it is PAINFUL. #2, I had to wear an aircast for a couple weeks.

If I had a dollar every time some choch nugget said "A high sprain is worse than a break", I would be retired right now. I got sick of hearing that and whacked a couple people with my crutch.
