I don't know. BUFFO is still legendary among many of the current rank and file, at least the older ones. Out of curiosity, why do you think they would rail against its reinstitution?
I don't believe they take ownership in the tradition. Just a hunch. Their reaction might be, "oh, they're just like SICSIC" or something along those lines.

There was a time when SICSIC and the band did NOT get along.

SICSIC and the band get along very well now, and I seriously doubt that many in the FMB even realize there was a time when they didn't.

I think that enough current members know enough about Buffo to care not only about reinstating it, but also about taking pride in the tradition and maintaining it. It's very different from SICSIC, obviously, and if it's done the right way I think the current members will realize that and embrace the tradition.

As passionate as the alums are about Buffo, I just can't understand why there is so much negativity about it coming back. To me, it's absolutely worth a shot, even if we fail miserably.

I would agree. Until you all started mentioning that the band and SICSIC used to have issues, I had no idea.

Sorry to be a moron, but it's not obvious to me. Most of what I've been told about BUFFO is that "they were like SICSIC but for the band." What were the differences?

I will be in town the friday before the Akron game and would be willing to pitch the return of Buffo to Dr. Moss if we can come together in the next 10 days and put a presentation together. It would have to denounce past actions, give some institutional control, and have a time table for being worked back in (obviously by next season). What if this does crash and burn? Would a "alumni buffo" appear each homecomming????

My Freshman year SICSIC and the band didn't exactly like each other, but didn't exactly hate each other either. I believe civil is the correct term. Relations improved throughout the year and the current situation of SICSIC Band love prevails.

I too fall into the group of people who are "I know about what BUFFO is, but how is really any different than SICSIC?" I credit it to not experiencing BUFFO first hand. I would like some sort of education as to how they differed, but everything I've ever heard points me to a conclusion that inorder to understand it must be lived.

The students in question already apologized profusely for the incident. That was not enough. I just don't see it succeeding. Negative? Perhaps. More realistic than anything. Remember, BUFFO was and in some respects still is an incovenience. I don't hold much hope for the reinstatement of BUFFO.

Remember, I see things from an alumni's perspective. A couple of years ago, the director of bands was asked by a ranking member of the alumni band "what would happen if BUFFO would make an appearance just for the alumni band." Response: "They would be asked to leave." Now, this was an alumni BUFFO for the simple sake of holding some traditions with JUST the alumni. It would have harmed no one.

I don't see BUFFO ever coming back......until the current director of bands leaves - back to Illinois, I hope.

I believe pitching BUFFO is worth another shot. It couldn't hurt. I suppose I just don't want to get my hopes up. It would be wonderful to bring BUFFO back since the band is now getting back to its traditional best.

I'll help where I can.

I would start off first by asking why Buffo was created in the first place? Maybe a re-set to its original intent in necessary. Then some history into how is grew. that will help cart where it goes from here.

BUFFO SEZ...

Post by MaggotsMaggotsMaggots »

Hey there, Hi there, Ho there....
It's BUFFO time again!
So sit right back and listen
To how this whole history began....

The time was in the 70s
When spirit first was born.
The first few crazy costumed heros
Donned masks and blue jeans torn.

The tradition started growing
The band now filled with glee;
No phones, no lights, no motorcars,
Not a single luxury.

They appeared around the band room,
They appeared on game day morn.
They paid evening visits to special guests,
No, not THOSE kind of visit...geez.

They traveled to out to Fresno,
And to many other games.
They were always very funny
And sometimes somewhat lame.

These BUFFOs were now everywhere
yet nowhere to be found.
Identities hidden with costumes pulled up
Until their final banquet...down.

Back then BUFFO represented everyone
coming from all walks of life.
And I'm sure if we had some more time
We could find a really good rhyme here.

Our biggest cheerleader, Mark S. Kelly
Will live on forever at BG!
We sincerely miss his oratory excellence
When reading our poems to thee.

BUFFO was sometimes funny
BUFFO was sometimes droll
Their only mission...To Support the Band
And to share some Tootsie Rolls.

Now BUFFO has been quiet...
But not silenced for good!
Keep your eyes & ears open...
You'll hear 'em again, as you should.

Thanks to all the Faccons
both new and old and REALLY old
Your kind words and support through our hiatus
Has been worth it's weight in silver.

Just from this excerpt i will be willing to help the return of BUFFO. Their only mission sounds alot like Kappa Kappa Psi(in which i am an MC for). i think, from what i have heard, that BUFFO was fun, but one incident got out of hand and so he has disapeared for good, whcih i don't agree with. I think it would be a great idea to try to reinstitue BUFFO

Buffo

Post by Squeak »

It's been a long time since I've heard an authentic Buffo poem. Sends shivers down my spine. I hope it's possible to bring them back. The younger generation is really missing out. It would certainly be a big reason to make it back for homecoming. :D

Identify yourself.

Delaine, do you notice a certain pattern in the new forum members here? It pleases me greatly.
