But I was running out of ways to avoid thinking about work and wound up trying to pencil together BG's schedule for next season.

Here's where I came down ...

Two crossover games TBD out of CMU, NIU, EMU, WMU, Balls Tate

Would the MAC be more likely to set us up with this year's crossovers - leading us to host Ball State and go to K-zoo, or switch things up with EMU, CMU or Northern?

I know Temple has four MAC games TBD, but I'm guessing those will be with teams that haven't fleshed out their OOC schedules for 2006 to get the 12 allowed. Ours is packed.

Man, that's a tough schedule next year!
BG will be a very diffrent team in 06. Lot's of people will be taking on more significant roles. Actually that's one of the things I love most about college football.

Wouldn't we be playing (Div IAA) Temple, since they more than likely would be slotted in the East with us? Or is it possible that we could be moved back to the West...I don't know if that has been ruled out or not. Since there are 13 schools next year there is some imbalance.

Temple won't be a full member until 2007, so their playing a "transitional" schedule. In 2007, I fully expect them to be in the East and they'll be a part of the BG schedule moving forward. But in 2006, Temple games will be OOC games and we have a full dockett of those.

Looking at that schedule makes me realize one thing even more......we had better win this MAC this year because next year will be much more difficult than where we sit right now.

I'm confident they will cross it up and we will get two out of NIU, CMU, and EMU. The way things are looking, sure hope we get EMU in there because CMU seems to be stepping up this year.

I would think the league would look to foster the growth of our budding rivalry with NIU as much as possible. I would be surprised if they're not on the slate for next year.

In 1992, they played back to back games at Ohio State and Wisconsin, the home OOC game that year was a solid "mid-major" matchup with East Carolina (with Jeff Blake at QB, I believe).

I think I remember some of the old folks around here talking about tough schedules in the 80's, but '92 and next year seem to be the tops.

The one that comes to mind for me is 1997: at Louisiana Tech, at Ohio State, and at Kansas State. Bowling Green lost 'em all.

It doesn't sound quite as tough, but remember that these were all on the road; we only had four home games all season.

Kansas State, in particular, crushed Bowling Green. It was 58-0. I'm sketchy on the details, but the Falcons may have crossed midfield only once or twice that game.

Sorry guys,

But the MAC schedule released up until 2009 was released before the addition of Temple to the MAC. The MAC said they would have to rework the MAC schedule since Temple will play 6 MAC opponents next season, which was not orginally on that future schedule. So our schedule listed for 2006 and other seasons down the road are not necessarily correct.

I think they can leave the 2006 schedule alone. Temple's games against MAC members will be considered non-conference contest in 2006. Logic (which I know should never be liberally applied in these situations) would dictate that the conference shedule games with MAC teams that do not have full OOC schedules, especially with the advent of the 12-game season.

I believe you're right that we can throw all the schedules from 2007 forward out the window.

Homecoming is set for October 14 next year (just got a forwarded forwarded forwarded email). As I remember, that's the week after the OSU game. With the Wisky game set for Labor Day weekend (Sept. 2), we can piece together even more.

October 14 - HOME vs. ?

That said, I would imagine right now that the Boise State game will be a Tuesday or Wednesday night affair in September (unless we scared them off this year and/or Omar's not around, but still with a likely 1 or 2 finish in the MAC East this year and the willingness to play on weeknights, I think that will be a Tues/Weds game again). That makes two of those September Saturdays "off weeks", for the one weeknight game vs. Boise. So unless there's a bye week in September, we can count on at least one MAC game before OSU, and at least one home game before Homecoming.
