Andy Evans

Post by ziggityboom »

Andy is so much fun to listen to. I am still laughing today at him calling the goal crossbar the top post. But seriously, he makes the game exciting to listen to for those of us who are dying to be at the game but must listen on the internet. Andy if you are reading this, I just want to say how close you've gotten lately to the correct pronunciation of Mazzie's home town. Say it this way: Kah-LOW-nah (Kelowna - Ke low na) accent on the middle syllable.
Ziggity out.

I totally agree with you!! Andy does a really great job!! Such a huge improvement over those two doofuses we had awhile back. Andy makes you feel like you are right there watching. I am also glad that 88.1 stopped doing that 5 second delayed broadcast. I like to listen to his call of the game while I am watching it at the home games, but the first few games were on a delay that made it annoying as hell to watch. I turned it off and complained to the radio station. Last Thursday was back on live, thankfully!

Keep up the great work, Andy!!!

"BG was relentless. It's like they know that a good first pass on the breakout from a defenseman will almost always result in an odd-man rush against them - but they go in anyway and dare you to make that pass. All three of their goals were just grit and effort. That's a team any fan can be proud to support...they give all they've got."

The only complaint I have would be the amount of time it takes to hear the score of the game. I remember years ago when Bartt Davis was the commentator and it seemed like every other whistle he would give the score. During away games, I really don't have the time that often to sit and listen to the entire game. I try to tune in every once in a while to hear the score, but it seems like it takes a goal being scored for him to say it. It should at least be mentioned before and after every commercial break including intermissions. Friday, I listened to almost the entire intermission report before I was even able to hear the score.

The play-by-play is great, just say the score more often, please...

I'll echo these sentiments. I remember listening to the third period of the BC game last weekend when I went walked away for a couple of minutes and came back not knowing that three goals had been scored. I listened for about five minutes before I realized that not only was the game no longer tied, but it was 9-6 BC.

That being said, though, Andy Evans is one of the best hockey announcers I have ever heard. He makes listening to the game exciting and always makes sure to remind the listener of which way the action is moving on the ice. He is passionate and a lot of fun to listen to! Thanks Andy!

Bartt Davis was the best. He knew the game, the coaches, the refs, and the league in general (knew the strengths of all the teams) and did a fantastic job. He is now a sports writer for the Sentinel. Andy is a close second and the best we have had since Bartt left. I am glad Andy is here doing Falcon Hockey!!!! I hope we have him for a long time!!

I was always partial to this one student broadcaster that did a number of games on WBGU back in the day... oh, if I could just remember his name...

Well, I wasn't around back in the day, but I hear that guy was a douche. I really had no idea that you called hockey when you were a student. I guess I can respect, at least a little, now. :P

Anyhoo, are the hockey broadcasts part of BGRSO, or is Andy a hired professional? I always thought that students were making all of the calls on WBGU, but Andy really sounds like he has been doing this for quite a while. :D

Coming from you, that's a compliment.

But yeah, I did mostly basketball games, but did a good number of football games and I'd say 15-20 hockey games, maybe? Great times, pretty much all around.

And I think that BGRSO no longer does the hockey on WBGU, or it's some kind of "hybrid" that came along a couple years after I got out of school.
