I’m as stunned as after the "Fat Punter” game

Post by BGSU33 »

This was like a bad dream…..even now I can’t believe what took place out there today. I’m shocked, just shocked. I’m so shocked, I’m almost not even upset, and that just doesn’t even make any sense. To get whipped like that, in every phase of the game by a team we “should” have beaten, watching our players fall to injury (especially, gulp, Omar), I was speechless. I sat through the entire game speechless. I drove to and from Cleveland today and stayed the entire game, to the very bitter end when the WMU fans were celebrating, almost as if I couldn’t get myself out of the daze I had fallen into in order to get out of my seat. It was like a bad dream and they had the score accidentally reversed on the scoreboard and I couldn’t leave until they fixed it. That’s the most stunned I’ve been at a game since 1994 when we lost to CMU on the fake punt by the fat punter. Seriously. That game hurt more, but still stunned me in a way such as today. At least that game, we played hard and well, we just feel short and gave up a huge play on special teams, but today, I don’t even know where to start?

I can only say this much now, we have now got to fight like hell to win the MAC East. I know we’re ahead in the standings, but with what we’ve got left on the schedule, we’re all knotted up in my book. We can’t afford any more losses. We have dodged so many bullets already this year in the MAC, trailing in the fourth quarter to Ball State and leading by seven points late against Ohio and Buffalo. Today, we got whacked. My hat goes off the WMU, they deserved to win and beat us in every aspect of the game, period. But this one still goes down in my most stunned category like the fat punter game for me….I just can’t believe what I saw today.

I agree. I was watching some other game on ABC today (UM-Iowa?) and I saw the score on the ticker. It was something like 28-6 WMU. I first thought that it was just a case of accidental reversing the scores until I saw it again. When I saw it twice, I pulled my laptop over and checked the Yahoo score, then I checked around on message boards. I would have believed the final score if someone told me it before the game only if BG was on the winning end of it.

Stunned is the perfect way to put it. Driving back to Akron last night, the whole family was asleep and I just drove in silence wondering what the hell happened?

At least I had a lot of fun with Josh. He took the loss so much better than me. How sad.

Hey Mike, thanks for the tickets...sorry for being so damn drunk.

OTOH, I'm quite glad I don't remember too much of the game :(

I am wondering if this will have the same effect on Coach Brandon's career as the "fat punter" did on Coach Blackney. Bowling Green football under Blackney was NEVER the same after that punt return, and I hope a game like this doesn't destroy Coach Brandons program.

Was the team drinking with you before the game? :(

The defense just got their third wake up call of the season (Whisky, Bosie, WMU) should I just assume that they're going to sleep through the season?

With Parks out and the other WR's either showing little (Lett, Brantley) or banged up (Partridge) will the redshirts be coming off Magner and Davis?

Can we really afford to redshirt Dan Macon?

Since the defense can't get off the field, does it matter?

"BG was relentless. It's like they know that a good first pass on the breakout from a defenseman will almost always result in an odd-man rush against them - but they go in anyway and dare you to make that pass. All three of their goals were just grit and effort. That's a team any fan can be proud to support...they give all they've got."

I'm incredibly disappointed in Lett and Brantley. Lett moreso than Brantley. Lett is a fifth year senior that dropped a sure first down on 3rd down when we were still in the game, had a fumbled KO return (after a really nice return, in his defense), and a false start penalty. He played better in the second half, but he's going to have to step it up if Turner is our QB. I assume that Akron, Kent State, Miami, and UT will watch the WMU game and put a huge effort into doubling Sanders and Sharon.

Where would we play Dan Macon if we took the redshirt off? RB's haven't been a huge problem and I think it is asking too much to stick him in at LB if he hasn't been practicing there, which I don't think he has. I certainly could be wrong there, though.

No reason not to redshirt Macon at this point unless Lane is hurt. The RB position isn't the problem although a healthy PJ would certainly help. Biggest mistake with Pope was bringing him back at Boise instead of just keeping him shut down until he was healthy (if so, we might've been looking at an injury redshirt at this point). Assuming Turner starts against Akron and with our injury problems at wr (Brandon Jones, Parks, and Partridge), I'm guessing we'll line up more often with a TE. Turner looks like Josh early in his sophomore year. I'm really interested how Anthony will look with a week to prepare. Time for the o-line to gel.

Noticed Brandon mentioning either a scheme problem or personnel problem on defense in his postgame quotes. He also seemed to discount that it was a problem with the scheme (sounds familiar). Too late in the season for position changes, and we've been a revolving door all season with our front seven personnel-wise.

Special teams aren't worth mentioning.

A lot of people have to step it up, and we need some leadership.

I dunno, maybe with Macon out there, the temptation to play PJ wouldn't be so strong,...I agree that RB is the least of our problems. Stopping the other team's RB's has been the problem.

I was wondering why that never happened. He only played maybe a half at Wisky and I'm not sure about Ball St. Was an injury redshirt ever a possibility or did we not think the injury was serious enough to warrant putting him down for the whole season?

He didn't play at Ball and why bring a guy with bad ankles back on astroturf. If he's healthy after that then play him, if not let him sit.

I could be mistaken, but I believe your ineligible for an injury rs once you play in 20% of your team's games (which went out the window for PJ when he played against OU). I'm too lazy to look it up.
