Two years ago when the Miami band visited (not that I particularly enjoy remembering that game...), they "marched" at the Doyt in-- was it early December? I remember looking at the mud on the field, and at Miami's white uniforms. I grabbed the nearest nugeye, pointed and laughed, and said, "Look-- this is why we wear brown pants."
Or the last home game in 2002. Was like marching through chocolate syrup, and we had Sounds of the Stadium the next day. All we had to do was just brush off the excess dried mud and no one was the wiser.
Good times. What's football and marching band without a little mud, for crying out loud?

Low blow, kid. Low blow.
If I didn't have homework to finish, I'd come down to Oxford and make you march a quigley right this minute.
And just for clarification, for Band(OH) (and any other non-FMBers)-- a quigley is the punishment inflicted upon any unfortunate bandie who leaves their belongings on the practice field or does anything similarly stupid. The maggots (okay, that's sousaphones in non-FMB-ese) make you wear a sousaphone and chair-step all the way down the field at ridiculously fast tempos, or do something equally difficult/embarrassing.

Hhhmm...I thought a Quigley was a punishment for people who were late to Sat morning rehearsals. When I was in the FMB, they always happened during stretches on Sat morning. The crap the maggots make you do to get your flip folder, etc back when you left it on the field is something totally seperate from a Quigley and can happen any time, not necessarily on Sat morning. The time they made Kent mark time and do facing commands with a sousaphone in Kelly Hall is the example that comes to mind.

Ya know, I hadn't planned on making the trip down to Oxford, but...I just might have too know, if for other reason than to defend both Ohiogal's and my own honor...and to kick your *BLEEEP* for the low defense crack.

You are correct-- that's what a quigley was when I was a freshman. But-- partly because Dr H doesn't want to waste time during morning practices, and partly because, well, not that many people are late to morning practice anymore-- we don't do those kinds of quigleys anymore. Instead, they make you do a quigley by yourself after rehearsal (not necessarily on Saturday morning) if you leave stuff on the field.Shakeatailfeather04 wrote:Hhhmm...I thought a Quigley was a punishment for people who were late to Sat morning rehearsals. Don't worry-- we still do BOWLING(space)GREEN(space)STATE(space)UNIVERSITY jumping jacks, the Running Of The Percs, I'm A Little Teapot, etc.

Unfortunately Dr. Hardware(as it was annouced at Grove City) doesn't agree. But i think it might have been considered hazing in a very mild sense. Unfortunately anythign cna be considered hazing if you have an active imagination.Shakeatailfeather04 wrote:Oh well boo, that's not as much fun. I didn't think Quigleys took up time- they were always done while everyone was stretching. The whole point of the Quigley was to do it front of the whole band. Oh well, I'm not Dr. H, not my decision!
I'm glad to hear that you're all still Little Teapots
So needless to say, you have to be very careful.

I think that the maggots tried to do them for the first home game (I remember that because at least three of the names they called were mellosFliccGirl wrote:You are correct-- that's what a quigley was when I was a freshman. And I know for a fact that it's not because people are no longer late because I've seen at least a few people come in late for every morning practice so far this season (once again, including one or two mellos).
Honestly, it's almost a relief to me that they don't do them anymore because for the past three years I have paranoidely shown up 20-30 minutes early to every morning practice for fear of Quigley embarrassment.

Sounds like fun... I mean, fun to watch. Well, if you're a comedian, maybe to experience, but then if you think ANYTHING embarrasses Miami Bandos, you've never been to an MUMB practice.
(Before 2000, they did Beer Pregame. Bus Keggers. OH, and Bus Wars. Those were fun!)

Yep, that was the whole point of the Quigley. If you're late, you're at the mercy of the Maggots and NO ONE wants that!Honestly, it's almost a relief to me that they don't do them anymore because for the past three years I have paranoidely shown up 20-30 minutes early to every morning practice for fear of Quigley embarrassment

I was going to say, I have serious doubts that suddenly no one is late to practice anymore. There were never very many stragglers to begin with- that's what section breakfast is for!
As for hazing, any little thing can be hazing. But I won't even get started on that topic

I didn't say NO one....
I just seem to remember gameday quigleys featuring at least six or seven people, every single Saturday. And-- I dunno-- maybe I'm just not observant, but is it that many on a consistent basis lately?
And yes-- glad you're not bringing up the topic of what can and can't be considered hazing. I've already sat through that workshop, thank you very much.
