Jacobs likely out for at least 2 weeks

By MAUREEN FULTON
BLADE SPORTS WRITER

Quarterback Omar Jacobs was re-evaluated yesterday after he separated his non-throwing shoulder in Bowling Green State University's game against Western Michigan on Saturday.

The Falcons wouldn't comment on Jacobs' status for their game Saturday against Akron, but a school spokesman said he would undergo rehabilitation.

The lowest-degree shoulder separations typically take about two or three weeks to heal, according to several sports medicine Web sites. Pain tolerance can also be a deciding factor if the separation is not serious. If the separation is of a worse degree, a player can miss months of time.

BGSU seems to be preparing as if Jacobs will not play, having him skip this week's Tuesday press conference, at which he is a regular attendee, and requesting that redshirt freshman Anthony Turner come instead.

Also, Turner's comments after the game indicated a temporary stint for him as starter.

"The tempo of the game from practice to game time, it changes a lot," Turner said. "That's something I will have to get used to for next week."

Turner, from Dayton, joined the Falcons last season as a likely eventual incumbent at the position. He was 20-of-38 for 242 yards and two interceptions in about three quarters of work. After the game he said he didn't like the situation in which he got his first significant playing time.

"I definitely wanted [playing time] in a blowout rather than like this," Turner said. "But it happened the way it did, and I'm going to get ready for next week."

Turner said he didn't lose confidence during the game and he was anxious to prove it.

"Next week I have to go out and show you guys that I'm confident," Turner said.

PARKS SURGERY OK: Redshirt freshman receiver Marques Parks had successful surgery yesterday to repair a broken right fibula and injured right ankle suffered in Saturday's game. He will miss the rest of the season.

Well its up to Anthony Turner to get the job done

I am confident we can beat Akron and Kent State with Turner. I have confidence he can get the job done, I really am. But all I will say is, I sure hope Omar is ready to go when we head to Oxford to face Miami. Get well soon Omar, get well soon.

Turner is good enough to beat Miami and Toledo IMO (with a respectable defense). Unfortunately for us, big football games are won on the defensive side of the ball and none of the 10 best players on our team play defense. The offense will be fine the rest of the year even if AT has to play it out.

True, but we're also going to need to score more than 14 points in a game as well.

I have nothing but intuition upon which to support this comment, but I think last week with Turner was an aberration. From all accounts, no one was prepared for Omar to go down, including Turner. AT and the team will be ready for next week, and I expect our offense to be just as productive as ever.

I would be concerned if we only scored 8 points under AT and it was on a 75 yard pass play and he failed to move the offense otherwise. We racked up enough yards to score 35 points on Saturday or at least 32-33 depending upon XP %. We just needed better execution in WMU territory and I fully expect those deficiencies to be cleaned up this week.
