Van De Walle And Team USA Win Bronze Medal

Post by Falconfreak90 »

The USA National Sitting Volleyball team came away with the bronze medal this morning with a four game victory over Slovenia (25-20, 10-25, 25-18, 25-20) on the final day of competition at the 2004 Paralympic Games.

Coach Van De Walle Quotes: "Today was one of the highlights of my coaching career. It will go down in memory as one of the best matches I have ever coached. Watching your team peak at the right time is a coach's dream and it happened today right before me. We played the best I've ever seen us play. The players we put out on the floor today have only been training for six months together and we beat the #2 team in the world again. It was awesome.

Watching the team stand on the medal stand to receive their flowers, olive wreath on their head, and bronze medal was such an emotional experience for me. I couldn't stop crying. I kept remembering all our training camps and all our talks about winning a medal... and today it finally happened! I am so proud!"

WAY TO GO COACH VAN DE WALLE!!! CONGRATS!!!

It's not a big suprise to me. The assistant coach who took over, I believe his name is Mark Hardaway, is a great coach as well and Van De Walle had already had the team playing great before she left. Stepping in and keeping things up was probably not that hard of a task for the assistant coach I'm sure.
