I don't necessarily disagree with the assessment on Floyd, but I really don't see Moon Robinson as the answer. I'll give you that he is quicker, but how can you think he is a better shooter? He shot under 40% from the foul line! To top it off he is even more of a defensive liability then Opie. Everytime he comes in the game he gets beat or posted up and reaches and fouls to try to make up for it. Forget his nearly 1-1 assist to turnover ratio which is bad enough, last year he had nearly twice as many fouls as he did points.

Floyd is by no means going to be a first team all MAC point guard, but he was obviously the best option we had last year. He hustles, he does a decent job of running the offense (not great but decent), and he is the guy you want on the foul line at the end of games. I agree that he is a defensive liability and his shooting last year was pretty bad, but unless one of the new guys coming in can take his place, Floyd is the best point guard we have on the team. I see Robinson as a good change of pace guy off the bench, but I don't see him as a guy you want out there for 25 to 30 minutes a night.

Moon's stat's aren't overwhelming, but I tend not to take stats too seriously in this case. We're talking about a freshman who played limited minutes, so IMHO his freshman stats aren't good indicators of his ability to contribute this year. With Moon, I'm more influenced by what I directly observe first hand on the floor. He runs faster and moves quicker. He has better form with his shot. He's a solid ballhandler. He doesn't tend to dribble into situations he can't get out of or see non-existent passing lanes. He's faster on the dribble, so he's more effective against on-the-ball defenders.

True, there's no getting around Moon's height. It will be a problem, just as it was for David Greer, Clinton Venable, Howard Chambers, and Earl Boykins. Bigger guards will post him up. However, Floyd full time at PG is a dead-end, especially when we have so much young talent to develop. I'm hoping for mainly a Robinson/Samarco rotation with Floyd seeing part-time, tactical minutes there as well.

BleedOrange, I think we will have alot of fun debating the basketball team this year. Right now you don't seem to like me much, but we will get through it. You made some interesting comments about Robinson I would like to challenge. 1. "He has better form with his shot" Form on a shot is overated. It is important, and most good shooters have good form, but a bad shooter shooting with good form means nothing (25% from 3 and 37% from the line). 2. "He's a solid ball handler. He does not tend to dribble into situations he cant get out of or see non existant passing lanes." If you watched the games last year he did that alot, thus the 49 ast to 46 to's. 3. "He is faster with the dribble and is more effective against on the ball defenders." His speed with the ball will be rendered to useless like it was last year, if he can not shoot. The other teams pg will play defense on him in the paint like they did a year ago. I think Robinson will be a very solid player in time, much like Ricky Willis was for Western Michigan the last two years. He will probably never be big offensive threat, but will be able to play hard in the system and make it work.
