I think you are loosely referring to the "Peter Principle"........ where people tend to be promoted up to their "level of incompetence"....... That looks like the situation we have here. I think a couple people on the staff are in way over their head and we are going to see more of what we have seen in the last 2 games.Metz wrote:I'm saying they did a better job in the position they previously had.

Hey 04 calm down!!! Remember this is the same head coach in the last two years who has taken BG to two bowl games and won both, thats not bad. After all the success BG has had in the last few years we have all become a little spoiled, actually not just a little spoiled but lately in the last few weeks alot of the fans have reminded me of, I hate to say it, but they have reminded me of f***ing Michigan fans, the worst most fair weathered fans around. Calm down, I know right now it is hard to believe but I honestly think Coach B and his staff will figure something out, they can only do so much. The season is not over yet, no matter what happens don't give up!!!

No the season isn't over but when you lose two games in a row at home to teams that you should beat people are not going to be happy. I think some of us including myself take these losses even harder than maybe some of the coaches and players. *Some, not all. I know that these guys work their tails off*
I don't see how we can play like we did today after a loss like last week. I know we had Turner as QB but thats still not an excuse.
I'm tired of excuses anyway. I thought we had a new brand of Bowling Green football in place. One that where losing was not going to be acceptable. That brand is quickly fading away and reverting back to coaches giving players a pat on the back and coddling them, saying we'll do better next time.
I want to get back to the days when all that mattered was winning and having fine student-athletes. Time for the coaches to bring out the Urban trash cans put them on the sidelines and make them start running and if they don't want to play anymore leave. We had a system in place that was working.

We won two bowl games with the players Urban Meyer brought in here and drilled in their heads the discipline and teamwork it takes to win.
This team, compared to even last year's, is brutal in every phase of the game. I stayed for the whole game today, and we run 3 straight screen passes inside our own 30, and on 4th and 5? There's no faith in our offense outside of Omar, and it showed more than ever today.

Is our season over? No. We still have 3 games left to play. Can we win? Yes. At any given time, any given team can win, that is why the games are played. Are any of the remaining going to "easy" or "gimmies"? Highly doubtful. I said somewhere else, I don't go into ANY game expecting to win by 300 points. Nor do I go into any game expecting to lose by 300 points. I expect every game to be close and to be a fight until the end.
Are the next three games going to difficult? I would bet the farm! After seeing the falcons today (1st time since the first half of Temple mind you) it seems very obvious that something rather major is wrong (no shite Goofy, huh?) Some say Coaching. Some say Defense. Others say Special Teams. While other say Attendance. Do I know what is really wrong? No. I personally think that there is some major underlying problem with us that we may or may not be able to see from the stands/radio. Whatever the problem(s) may or may not be, BGSU is now a marked target for the rest of the conference. For the last several years we have been one of the flagship schools, and now the sharks are smelling blood in the water. That is going to make any win the rest of this season extremely difficult.
Will I ever truly take off my orange and brown glasses? NO. Each game is different. Each game brings something new to the table. Each game is a fresh start. If for only that reason, I will never have a mindset that we are going to lose going into a game. That mindset can change very quickly after the game starts, but it will never change prior to the opening kick off. Does that annoy people? Most likely, otherwise we wouldn't be having this discussion. Do I care? Absolutly not! I stopped caring what people think of me a long time ago. I'm not trying to go and see how many people I can piss off or anything, but I'm just being me. If someone doesn't like it, that's their choice.

Every college football coach in the country (Div I anyway) knows that going into this profession is a gamble. They're paid monster salaries with the understanding that they are to produce. Producing keeps the alums happy, the egos properly supported and the bucks rolling in. When they don't produce, especially when they take a promising program and let it atrophy (decay) as has happened at BG, those in charge gotta go. Even the assistant coaches make considerably more than the tenured college professors ----- soooo produce, or leave. The probability is that football at BG is only gonna get worse if Brandon stays; the buck stops with him. Last years recruiting class was a disaster (though nobody wanted to admit it at the time) and with the two best receivers in the MAC leaving the scene (although both Sharon and Sanders were virtually ignored yesterday), it just doesn't look good. New blood at the helm always seems to create more energy/excitement and different results ---- look what happened to Western Mich. and Central for example.

We did not win 2 bowl games with the players Meyer brought here. Harris, Hewitt, Jarrett, Hart and scores of others were recruited by Gary Blackney. Some say Brandon is living off the talent Meyer brought in. Meyer, in a sense, won with the talent Blackney brought in.jeremyp wrote:We won two bowl games with the players Urban Meyer brought in here and drilled in their heads the discipline and teamwork it takes to win.
One thing I do miss is the discipline Meyer brought. You are correct on that one.

Yep...in fact some people say Urban Meyer has never proven he can actually build a winner with his players because his success in BG and Utah cam e with his predecessors talent. I think it's too early to say if Gregg Brandon can recruit or not.
I definitely agree that we badly need some discipline back in the program
What frustrates me as a fan of the program for over 20 years is that when we have losing seasons, it doesn't seem to be because we lack talent on the field. Blackney won right away with Ankney's guys, Meyer won right away with a mix of his guys and Blackney's and Brandon continued on with Meyer's and his guys.

Well, let's not overdo this Blackney thing. Charles Sharon, Cole Magner, Steve Sanders, Omar Jacobs, PJ Pope, James Hawkins...these were all Meyer recruits, and I think you could say they had something to do with those bowl wins.Falconfreak90 wrote:We did not win 2 bowl games with the players Meyer brought here. I did not say ALL the players responsible for the bowl wins were recruited by Blackney. But there were a significant number of players recruited by Blackney that helped win the bowl games as well.orangeandbrown wrote:Well, let's not overdo this Blackney thing. I'll still be cheering on the Falcons no matter how down they get. Like my dad was saying, he has been a Bengals fan all of his life and he has been with them even when they were the worst team in the league. Yes, the Falcons have struggled, but lets not let these 2 losses give everybody bad hope. So they lost these past 2 games. **** happens. Deal with it.
Roll On!!!
I said pretty much the same thing to Freak at the tailgate Saturday, in regards to being a Browns fan. Yeah, days like today (and last week, and the week before and I think they lost to "bye" this year) are a bitch to sit through, but the day the Browns win a Super Bowl, there will be public nudity. (So be sure to say hi to the 80 year old pantsless guy that night!)FalconFanKM wrote: Like my dad was saying, he has been a Bengals fan all of his life and he has been with them even when they were the worst team in the league.
Same thing with BG. Taking in the campus, the downtown, the gameday atmosphere, it makes me wonder where the last 10 years flew off to (uh, 3 years, if that girl from Junction Saturday night is reading this.
