CFN's latest prediction has NIU playing Penn State in the Motor City Bowl. Man would I love to have that match-up for BG! I'd love to see BG play Penn State, I'd like our chances and what a "feather in the cap" that would be to win. I know Penn State isn't what it used to be, but so what, it's still Penn State.

Actually, I'm not convinced it is "still Penn State"

The national perception of Penn State the past few seasons seems to be that they are being run into the ground by a formerly great coach who has lost touch with "today's player" whatever that means

Seriously, I don't think you gain any national recognition whatsoever by beating Penn State anymore.

Dan Dakich made an interesting point about PSU during one of his appearances on Normie's show in Toledo. He said that when PSU joined the Big 10, the thinking amongst some in the coaching fraternity was that they would struggle before too long. The rationale for this line of thinking was that PSU is too disconnected geographically from the rest of the conference. They play too many games away from the homes of the majority of the kids that they recruit.

Whe he was an assistant at IU, they landed more than one midwest kid over ACC competittion by simply laying a map out with the locations where the kids would be playing in the Big 10 vs the ACC or other major conference. Parents want to ee their kids play, and it is easier if they can drive there.

But I would gain a great deal of personal gratification, living in the heart of Nittany Lion country and all.

Beating a Big 10 team is beating a Big 10 team. I don't care who it is.

I see what you're saying though Hammb.

Oh, I agree. There is still something to be said for beating the Big 10!

I guess my point is just that on a national scale beating PSU will get us only marginally more recognition than beating Northwestern did, or beating Illinois would.

Wasn't this supposed to be the year Penn State was going to be good again or was that next season? I remember hearing all last year that there was no way Joe Pa was going to retire especially then because next year they were going to be real good.

Hey, Penn State, Alabama, Nebraska...line them up and if we win any of those games, I'll take it! Penn State will be better again. I'm not saying when, but they will. It's just like when BG beat Ohio State in basketball in 1994-95. I don't care if OSU had a down year, the fact of the matter is, BG beat OSU. Every time I walk into OSU's St. John's Arena, I remind myself of that game. I was there, and it was awesome!

if we WERE to play Penn State, lets make sure JoePa's not going for a "milestone" win. We've already been the victim in his 200th and 300th. (Does anyone else remember when BG was the answer to that trivia question on ESPN's "Two Minute Drill" a few years ago?)

Yeah, but who was the victim that gave up "The Win"?

None other than THE Ohio State University.
