Suisham Solid So Far
The only team that cut him was the Cowboys. They then placed him on their practice squad. At that point any team could've had them, but they would've had to put him on their active roster and cut their current kicker to do so.FalconFanKM wrote:Shaun made a very impressive start, makes you wonder how weird the other teams that cut him must feel...
I'm pretty sure that 3 XPs and 2 21 yard FGs don't have other teams scrambling to see what they missed out on.
Shaun's a solid kicker and had a nice start yesterday, but I'll reserve my overall judgement on him until he makes a pressure packed 43 yarder.
:duh: He went to camp with the Steelers and they cut him first. :duh:hammb wrote:The only team that cut him was the Cowboys.FalconFanKM wrote:Shaun made a very impressive start, makes you wonder how weird the other teams that cut him must feel...
Then he was signed to the Cowpokes practice squad, released from their practice squad, and signed to the active roster two weeks later.

Way To Go Scott!!
Suisham Holds His Own - cowboys.com
Rookie kicker Shaun Suisham passed his first test Sunday, but not necessarily with flying colors.
The former practice squad player, signed to the 53-man roster when Jose Cortez was released Monday, was 2-for-2 on field goals against the Cardinals and made all four of his extra points. But those field goals were both only from 21 yards out, and his kickoffs were consistently caught between the 5- and 10-yard line.
Suisham also struggled during pre-game warm-ups, which he attributed to nervousness about his first NFL game.
"I kind of struggled a bit in warm-ups," Suisham said. "I was just a little over-stimulated, a little jittery. And I had the opportunity to come back in (the locker room) and sit down and talk with Mat (McBriar). I got a few more kicks in just before the game started and felt a lot more confident.
"There were a couple times later in the game where I thought I might get a chance to try a longer (attempt), and I was pretty excited by that."
Earlier in the week, Parcells said Cortez was released partially due to poor practice and warm-up kicking. But Cortez also missed a 29-yard field goal in last week's loss to the Seattle Seahawks.
Suisham was solid on all six kicks he attempted. His biggest problem came on kickoffs, which were caught on average at the Arizona 8.6 yard line, including two that were caught at the Arizona 14.
Suisham said after the game he was unhappy with his kickoffs.
"I'm just going to try and continue to improve," Suisham said. "It's nice to have the first one under the belt. I hear the first one is the hardest." [/b]

..Another thing the Cows have to take care of is the kicking position. After cutting Jose Cortez last week, the team promoted Shaun Suisham’s from the practice squad to starter. How anonymous is Suisham? Bill Parcells calls him "Scott." Eagles fans take note: Suisham is pronounced swee-zum.

Suisham Gets Shot
IRVING, Texas - In two stints with the Dallas Cowboys practice squad, kicker Shaun Suisham had time to kill while waiting for his opportunity.
So the Ontario native spent it touring the city with his girlfriend.
"If you're not going to be on the team, it's nice to have someone here to share it with," Suisham said.
Now that the rookie is on the team, his job is simple: perform better than his predecessor. The Cowboys waived Jose Cortez on Monday after the four-year veteran missed three of his last seven field goals, including a pivotal 29-yard attempt in Sunday's 13-10 loss to Seattle.
Suisham, who spent training camp with the Pittsburgh Steelers, was first signed to the practice squad Sept. 4 by the Cowboys and released Oct. 11. He was back with the practice squad a week later for one day before he was signed Monday.
Parcells said Suisham was the best of four kickers the team invited to work out. He said he didn't consider keeping Cortez for kickoffs because he thinks Suisham can do both, and didn't bring in an experienced veteran like 45-year-old Morten Anderson because of his age.
"There's some other kickers," Parcells said. "This is the one we kind of earmarked. We thought quite a bit of him while he was here. We thought, he's young, maybe we'll hit one here."
What remains uncertain is what the Cowboys might do once they're able to sign Billy Cundiff again in a few weeks. Cundiff, who kicked for the Cowboys the past two seasons, was released after he hurt his hip on the final full day of training camp.
"We'll see how it's going," Parcells said of the possibility of Cundiff returning.
Suisham, who made 14 of 20 field goals in his last year at Bowling Green, said he's not worried what might happen down the road.
"Of course I need to prove myself," Suisham said. "I'm a rookie kicker who hasn't done anything. At the same time, I don't need to do all of that in one game. I just need to go one kick at a time here."

http://www.cowboysplus.com/topstorync/s ... 26cc1.htmlIs it a good sign when your rookie kicker is speed-reading a self-help book called Mind Gym 30 minutes before kickoff? That's what Shaun Suisham was doing after punter Mat McBriar fished the book out of his duffel bag. McBriar had just witnessed one of the worst pre-game kicking sessions in NFL history and thought the kid could use some help.
