Ok...Step back...Breathe in...and breathe out...ok. Now that's out of the way...
Did our coach really say that?? I'm hoping that perhaps something misheard, or misquoted (unintentionally, I don't think you'd lie J4H). Unfortunatly I don't think that is the case. This is really disturbing. You all know that I have been one of the largest voices of "Calm down, wait and see" crowd. However this is making me start to rethink that position. I'm not quite ready to call for Brandon's head on a platter, however he no longer has my unquestioning, and unwaviering support.

The coach is blaming recruiting??? My follow-up question to him would be: Coach, can you tell me who is in charge of recruiting? Wouldn't that be you? So are you saying this mess we are in is your fault?

Hey, we all share the same passion towards BG sports that's why it's so much fun to hang out here...
Anyway, I think the subtext that screams from GB's "recruiting" spiel is "I want that fricking Sebo Center and I want it NOW! We have crappy facilities and my oiffice is suckier than a non tenured humanitites prof"
At least that's my gut reaction....

Unfortunately goofy, he said it multiple times and the words inside of the quotation marks are direct quotes (except for "leading").
He did mention the Sebo center Flip, and that fans need to be patient. He was about to get some credibility back by talking about the Sebo and it's intended effects. Then he lost it all again by blaming our struggles on the fact that everyone else has gotten much better this year.
Still fuming....

I'll back ya up here, Flip. Yes, these comments, if accurate, are absolutely, 100% infuriating; however, let us not all turn into a bunch of wanna-be BCS fans.
The nice thing for me about BGSU and MAC sports in general is that it is about the things that count - education and academics. We do not have a ton of fans that don't have a GED, let alone time in a classroom. Our fans always have been, and always should be, there for this team no matter what. There are a lot of younger people, like myself, who really only remember the good times we have enjoyed over the past few years. But, we need to realize that there is more to life than winning, and that the young men we cheer through thick and thin are students who are here to get their education first and foremost. The majority of people in Ann Arbor, Columbus, South Bend, wherever the hell Florida is, etc., forgot that a long, long time ago. I don't want to ever see that happen here.
That being said, judging from these comments, if Gregg Brandon is one of the people these student athletes are learning from, it is time for a change because they are recieving a sub-par education. Still, don't give up on this team. I can't even imagine how hard it is for our friend spart to be reading this board this week knowing how hard his son is working and how much he has given up. I hope he chimes in sometime soon.

No, J4H is NOT misquoting Brandon.
I heard every second of this interview on the radio on my way home today. As upset as I was listening to his post game show Saturday I was more peeved today. It was awful, and anyone that missed it should hope you don't hear it on tape...very disturbing indeed.
Brandon, as J4H said, basically blamed our failures on how our recruiting has suffered by going through 2 coaching changes. This is possibly the biggest copout I've heard in awhile. As Option eluded to earlier in this thread, had Brandon done his job with his recruiting classes we should be seeing more production from those to make up for some possible issues with the coaching changes.
Brandon also blamed the seniors for not stepping up to be leaders...I do agree with him that this is a valid concern.
He also stated that fans need to realize that these recruiting woes have left us not lacking good players, but we don't have enough good players. He commented that we have players on defense playing that shouldn't be playing yet. He also said that we no longer have the talent to blow teams out so the best we can now hope for is a chance to win in the 4th quarter.
In all I have to say that the interview was one of the most defeatest, excuse riddled interviews I've ever heard. I've been hard on coach in the past, and I've always wanted him to succeed. I've said that I didn't think he was doing a great job, even when we were winning, and now I'm convinced of that fact. He's a mediocre coach, at best, and I think he's assembled a mediocre staff. I'm not one for firing him, but I sure would be doing the happy dance if somebody else hired him away from us.

WTF? This makes absolutely no sense to me. He tells us recruiting is bad the last few years. Then tells us some young guys are out there that shouldn't be? What the hell? So the redshirt seniors that have been here five years suck and at teh same time, the guys we just recruited suck too and none of them are good enough to be playing. Is he saying we have nobody that can play defense at all right now? If so, then I agree completely.hammb wrote: He commented that we have players on defense playing that shouldn't be playing yet.

I really don't know how to respond to this. The best we can hope for is a chance to win in the 4th quarter??? OH MY GOD.

I just read a post by Duckunder and his signiture has this quote from Gregg Brandon ""You don't always get what you want in life, but you usually get what you expect...and we got what we expected: a VICTORY."
So now I guess we are expecting to play close games and hope we get lucky and win. Pathetic.

No hyperbole. Today's Gregg Brandon interview on 1470 was the absolute WORST thing I've ever heard a head coach say. It was awful.Warthog wrote:I just read a post by Duckunder and his signiture has this quote from Gregg Brandon ""You don't always get what you want in life, but you usually get what you expect...and we got what we expected: a VICTORY."
