Will 'they' rush Omar back to the field. . .

Post by Dayons_Den »

. . .like they have done with Pope and Partridge?

I couldn't believe my eyes during the Western game when P.J. ran out on to the field for a few plays two games ago. I am equally miffed/sad/frustrated when I see Corey come off the field after a play with his arm dangling limp at his side while he tries to make balls with his fist.

I know the bottom line is that the athlete makes the call and it is very hard to keep an athlete, highly competative by nature, from competing. But it seems to me that both of the afore mentioned players were 'rushed' back to action.

I wonder if they will do that with Omar?

I really hope he has adequate time to get better and has surgery if he needs it.

Me too. Omar should not play until at least Miami. A positive thing is he will have 2 weeks from today to heal. AT and the offense must put points on the board this week. Kent is really banged up right now.

I'd actually like to see us rush for about 350 yards and just wear them down.

Just make sure Omar is healed before trying to get him back in action. PJ and Corey are still hurting.

GB said on the ticket last night that with Omar's type of injury that they no longer perform surgery on it.

He also said that Omar did start throwing the ball again on Sunday.

And I seriously doubt the player makes the final call on whether they put him in the game or not. He can only tell the coach he is good to go...the coach still has the final say on who takes the field.

MASH II:

Brandon said the Falcons could get injured quarterback Omar Jacobs (shoulder) back in action this week at Kent State.

"A day-to-day thing," Brandon said. "He threw better in practice."

Well, I too am miffed/sad/frustrated when I see Corey go into a game that he is suppose to sit out to heal. And to watch him continue to run to the side lines with his arm limp and hurting. But there are two sides to every story. As a father I watch him reinjure his shoulder each week and just want him to stay out of the action. Also as a father I have been talking to the Coaches and the Trainers, monitoring his condition each week and sometimes every day. I talk almost daily with Corey about how he is feeling. I have even gotten some outside opinions on his condition just to be sure I am hearing the right things out of the trainers. I have to trust these guys and Corey with his well being. At his point I do. I have come to understand alot of the things that are going on with the health of the players and it is very difficult as a casual observer to know what is happening. Corey went into these games because he needed to, and the coaches know he is hurt but they also know he can perform even if not 100%. I don't doubt them or him. I know that Corey has the ability to make a play even when he is not 100%. (i.e. Punt return against Temple) I would feel even worse if Corey was in PJ's shoes. He is a senior that has had some great years and we all know what he can do and so do the Coaches.

It is not the players decision to go into a game when injured. There is a staff of doctors and trainers that have evaluated the player all week. Each day they review their condition and update their playing status. They must be the first ones to say if that player can go. Then there is that players position coach who must also say if that player is ready to go. They have watched him practice all week. Then the head coach has a say in it. The player also has a say in, but as it has been stated what player would not go in if given the opportunity. So alot of hard work goes into the decision on whether a player will play in this game. Some players are held out with the knowledge that if needed they can go and it was that way for Corey in the WMU game.

They won't rush Omar into the game before he is ready. And if he gets reinjured in the game, well that happens too, just like the first injury happened. Been there, done that.

My feeling is that they won't use Omar unless they absolutely have to in the Kent game, like if we need a drive to win the game in the 4th late, other than that expect Turner to play the whole game at KSU.

Speaking of, raise your hand if you purposely looked to see if Omar was dressed after halftime this past Saturday.

Not I...I only looked to see how much movement he was doing with the bad arm. I only saw him raise it above waist once when he made a motion like he as awaiting a shotgun snap.
