What you don't realize is that that "tradition" keeps a large number of people away from the ice arena because they don't want to hear it and they don't want their kids to hear it. I've heard on more than one occasion where somebody said that they'd never come back because of it. If that's the type of atmosphere you enjoy creating then you all have succeeded. It's just what we need, fewer people coming to the arena to cheer on the team.
IMO there's absolutely nothing creative about what secton E does. It's the same old garbage and vulgarity every game. Section A in the 80's, now there was some creativity. Different cheers made up EVERY game w/no vulgarity to speak of. The goal, so to speak, was to rattle the goaltender to the point where he couldn't concentrate (thus the popularity of section A...you get to piss off the opposing goaltender twice in each game from that section). 90% of the time we were successful. THAT is what made home ice such an advantage at BG. Yelling at the opposing players as they're walking on and off the ice does little or nothing for the team. Rattling their goaltender, however, creates a huge advantage. If you want to do something useful for the hockey team bring back section A.
A little known fact.....section E came to be because York changed goals after the north end of the arena was closed in. Much of section A moved to section E so that they could continue to play with the goalie's head. When Buddy became the head coach he switched the goals back to their traditional configuration. Unfortunately the section E crowd never moved back and the advantage that we had in our arena died.
