Funny things that happen......

Post by Rightupinthere »

During performances, what have been some of the bizaar, humorous, and downright wild things which have happened during performances (BGSUFMB only, please).

I remember once we had Chief do our halftime announcing. He signed off the post show credits with, "And I am your annoucer Joe Garagiola."

I remember our first night show at the Doyt. 1990. It was our Religious show and I was to take a lighter from Stephanie (twirler) after she lit her batons. One problem, she couldn't get the damn things lit. What was only about 30 seconds seemed like infinity has she's hunkered down over these batons, cursing like a truck driver, hands trembling, trying to get a spark from her BIC.
Of course I wasn't helping. I was shouting, "Come on, light the damn things!" Because I was out of position.
We had a good laugh and hug after that.

I'll remember more, I'm sure.

We've got the time two years ago..... first time marching Frontiers.... not only was there a camera guy on the field getting in everyone's way, but someone's shako fell off and was kicked around the muddy field for the whole show. That was caught on the video, I do believe.

And what show was it last year, where Aaron Kennell got his trombone slide caught on a twirling flag, and just had to let the slide fly off and retrieve it after the show was over?

Beetle falling over during maggot entry. So good, it's on the band video complete with instant replay!

Ok, so it wasn't a performance, but it was damn funny.

There was also the time Mandy Schaub (now Denman, eek!) and I went 10 yards too far in a set and had to fudge (read: march as fast as humanly possibly) our way back into the form. But *hopefully* only she and I remember that!

Back in 2003 for the Ohio State show, I decided to put in a "bong" visual (which many drumlines have done in the past). Well, since I didn't want to get into any trouble, I stressed to the entire bassline "We'll do it backfield, nobody will see us there." The show went off without a hitch, but then I came home and found this....

crap! busted.

that was something you guys did my freshman year when i didn't march, cuz I remember Backes showing it to us at our "sax/bone bonding night" during fundies week...like 100 times, since he lived w/Aaron Kennell...

I remember Jason Guingrich loosing his hat at the end of the Incredibles show..."and down and down and s**t!!" his hat just kinda...rolled off. It was amusing though.

Another funny thing was at Grove City when we stood there forEVer while they did awards and the percs started doing all this random clapping and stuff...then Backes thought it would be funny is we did stuff too. So we're standing in the back of the field clapping, moving our saxes, dancing, and any other random thing...it was hilarious.

I'm sure there is more funny stuff, but I'm having mental block.

HAHA! I still remember Caroline (uniform chair) screaming and yelling in the background of that video! Great times!

Oooh, and another story. The very first pregame of my freshman year we were marching downfield into the tunnel, and Brad Oyer, who was leading our line, did the right flank five yards too early.... luckily we all figured it out and just marched the rest of the way on a diagonal to reach our spots, instead of going straight. But it was more than a little nervewracking for me as a nugeye who had never marched ANYWHERE before.... since my high school didn't have a marching band.....

There was the fly-over last year for the Sept. 11th pregame that was a good minute or two late...

And I can't remember if it was last year or the year before, but during one of our Braveheart entries near the end of the season when the field was uber-muddy, Keebs (Lauren Tanner) slipped and fell, doing a somersault-type move when she hit the ground.

And if I remember correctly, didn't Beetle fall twice during entry?

I don't remember ever hearing about that at all!!

And yes, Beetle did fall twice during entry, I believe. Two band videos in a row. (Neither during a performance, however.)

lol..... well..... it happens. I had a spaz-attack at Ball State this year because a praying mantis decided to suddenly land on my face without warning in the stands... I recovered only to find all the maggots laughing at me....

Does the video guy catching you falling asleep in the uniform room during fundies week count?

Thanks Chase....

and also...before every game this year, it's been pretty chilly, so Vert starts his little bass line thing, and we all jump around and sing the "system is down" thing...or we just sing random songs.

Oh yeah...this wasn't during a performance, but at Ball State, I was going down the stairs, and I tripped and practically fell, and while I was catching myself I went, "OH S***!" Only to look up and see Jeff, Justine, and Brett all staring back at me. *insert foot in mouth*
