BG WINS!!

Post by Metz »

What a game! 7-3! Spratt came out and made some great stops...one that got by I don't think should have counted but oh well. Not a bad crowd for a Friday night. Everyone seemed really into the game but that's usually the case when you're winning.

Awesome. Thanks for posting, brother. Been trying to find a score. I figured we won because the mavs board was configured suicide watch.

SEVEN points! Sweet. And limiting their young yet high powered offense to only 3 goals is a pretty good showing.

Sweep em!

It was a really complete game by the whole team tonight. Like Metz said, that 2nd goal was hard to see if it was knocked in by a glove or not. Spratt looked much more comfortable, he appeared to have a lot more confidence in himself and his teammates.

The most important thing to me tonight was that BG won the even strength game. The powerplay has been scoring a lot of goals and it was good to see the 5-on-5 game chip in some production.

Heck of a game

Great game by BG, they dominated in all aspects. Spratt made some big saves, that was good to see. I'm happy for him as he got his first collegiate win. There were some absolutely beautiful goals scored by BG tonight. Let's get 'em again saturday night boys!
Hey Metz I was sitting a row behind you, orange t-shirt, orange hat. Anyways, that was a fun game tonight, huh?

2nd goal was definately hit in with a hand. I was behind the net and the puck was on it's way into Spratt's glove. The other player had his stick on the ice and punched the puck over Spratt's glove. He was way to far past the net to even have a decent argument that it was legit. He didn't even celebrate till the ref signaled goal.

The ref was absolutely horrible tonight. How he was making his calls I have no clue. At times, I think he was just pulling stuff out from a dark place. And how a player can get tackled after a goal and no call is made is beyond me.

A decent game by BG but Nebraska helped us out a lot. I'm not trying to take anything away from the win. We were definately the better team tonight. If we were playing our best hockey right now, it would've been a shutout.

Ha, nice one but it wasn't him. We had him for OSU here. That was pretty pathetic, too.

FWIW, Horrell probably would have been in net tonight but he cut his knee in practice on Sitko's skate and it currently has 10 or so stitches in it. He was dressed tonight and could have played if needed but it is still a bit stiff. He thinks he'll get to play tomorrow night.

Spratt looked better tonight but he's still going down way too quick, is too slow getting back up, and is leaving huge rebounds. There was a lot of open net tonight, but poor shooting by UNO helped us.

Sitko will also be playing tomorrow night. The coaches wanted him to sit out one more game due to his bruised knee injury.

ccha officiating is horrible, that's a given. we had about 20-25 penalties called in a typically physical 3-1 win over tosu. if they were even remotely consistent, it wouldn't be so bad but you see things called, then see the exact same play not called. that's frustrating. i wish they'd go to the two-ref system, but ron mason always poo-pooed it when he was coach, now ad, at msu.

tosu lost their minds last night and had two players given 10-minute misconducts for mouthing off to the officials with about 5 minutes to play in the third. needless to say, they were escorted to the locker rooms. i love that osu is reeling. my loathing for them is even more pronounced in hockey since we've always been competitive with them even as our program was terrible in the 80s and we were getting better. just something about tom askey, eddie choi and others that i can't stand!

"Regarding BGSU, I would think their biggest strength is that they never give up, They never slow down and they battle hard even after the other team scores. We have to be on our game and never, ever take the foot off the gas for a second."

"BG was relentless. It's like they know that a good first pass on the breakout from a defenseman will almost always result in an odd-man rush against them - but they go in anyway and dare you to make that pass. All three of their goals were just grit and effort. That's a team any fan can be proud to support...they give all they've got."

This will improve as he adjusts to the speed of the college game. What was most important was for him to get that first win, especially a good solid win!! Confidence is EVERYTHING for a goalie, especially one who was recruited so highly. He looked much more comfortable in net and the team playing so much better in front of him helped a lot too. Fantastic win, Great game!!!

Pochmara. I've never heard of him before. I'm really suprised that Tony Molina didn't get in his mandatory Assistant Referee penalty call. The tackle after BG's last goal would've been perfect timing for it.

Probably the biggest positive from last night was our ability to capitalize on UNO mistakes. Without UNO's mistakes, it would have been a very close game. As long as we can keep doing this for the rest of the season, while keeping our mistakes to a minimum, we should be near the top of the league. Once we stop taking advantage of other team's mistakes, we're in trouble.

Speaking of trouble, seems some UNO fans are ready to hit the "Panic Button" this early in the season: http://www.mavpuck.com/mpboard/topic.as ... hichpage=1

If you want to read something funny, check out Kemp's comments in the recap on USCHO. http://www.uscho.com/recaps/20052006/m/ ... o-bgsu.php

Very little credit to BG as a team. Apparently our "egg shaped ice" and "active boards" confused their players. Egg shaped ice?

That's the sign of a coach who's panicing and reaching for excuses big time!
