Any word on Omar?
Any word on Omar?
Has anyone heard the status of Omar? Most of you guys get the inside scoop on BG football just wondering what your feelings are about Omar starting against Miami.
I have no inside info whatsoever, but my gut feeling right now tells me he isn't going to be able to go. I know Omar warmed up with the team Saturday, but that was all a rouse. Once the game statrted he never had his shoulder pads on. When Turner went down, there was no indication whatsoever that Omar going in was even a possibility. I think his shoulder is pretty bad, and Brandon is just trying to make the opposition think there is a chance he could play. I honestly feel like we are going to have to win with Turner running the show.

I disagree (but it is based on absolutely no facts)
Brandon gave the FSN sideline reporter a very smug answer to the question of if the Kent game was tight in the 2nd half would he use Omar. I believe he would have, by then it would be absolutely necessary.
With Turner down before the half and we're in the red zone that wasn't dire enough since the coaches had a chance and time to diagnose the situation for what it was. It could have been a different story had AT not emerged from the locker room.
BTW, in not wanting to "burn redshirts and 'in it for the long haul".....I believe that true freshman Barnes was on the sidelines for the game but they didn't go to him for the temp job while AT was out.

Barnes was warming up when Van was in and also throwing to start the second half on the sidelines. . .
all bowling green
My take on that was that he was a little surprised she even asked that since Omar didn't even have his pads on. I think he was just being coy again. And they showed plenty of shots of Jacobs when Turner got hurt and he showed nothing to indication there was even a possibility of him going in. I mean he didn't take off the headphones. He didn't go looking for his pads and helmet. He didn't approach any coaches to say he could go or to see if the coach was going to ask him to play. He wasn't going to play against Kent no matter the score. He had a grade three seperation. That's the worst. I seriously think he may not play again this year.JohnnySwoop '85 wrote:Brandon gave the FSN sideline reporter a very smug answer to the question of if the Kent game was tight in the 2nd half would he use Omar. I watched Omar throw on the sidelines before the start of the second half. He had no intention of going in the game, rather he was helping Turner warm up. Omar appeared to be throwing with no pain and he even was catching passes from Turner before a receiver came over to catch for him.
If his shoulder is so bad that it won't allow him to play the rest of the year, there is no way they let him warm-up and catch passes on the sidelines. If its that bad, he wouldn't be able to lift his arm to catch passes or make a full range of motion on one of his passes.
I'm not saying he will be 100%, but I think he plays at Miami for sure.

I got an inside tip that Omar would play against Miami from this guy:

He also said something about "death to America," but I'm not sure exactly what that is all about...

I have a feeling we will see Omar vs. Miami, just a gut feeling. But I also think if he doesn't play againts Miami, I think our chances at a win are even less and I doubt he'd play against UT either. But here's to hoping we see #4 out there, ready to go, and leading BG to a victory. Think about how big it would be for Omar to come back, BG to beat Miami in Oxford, and stay in the MAC East running for a championship after how the past few weeks have felt.
GO BG!!!

It would be extremely gratifying to see the Falcons win the East and then the MAC after what the team has been thru....EXTREMELY.
Never give up. As fast as we lost that 2 game lead in the East, we can be up 2 games with a win over Miami.
GO BG!~
