but honestly, until i moved here i didn't know how to properly pronounce it, either.

then again, when i lived in chicago, there were plenty of out-of-staters who pronounced the state Illi-Noise.

mostly Boizeans.

i mean, BoiSeans. :?

The question then, is who's right? The local minority or the national majority?

I'll try to pronounce it correctly from now on! Perhaps you can convert us all a little at a time...

I, too, always mistakenly pronounced Boise. The new Ph.D. student from Boise in my department corrected me, though, and I will now forever pronounce it right simply out of respect.

The great thing about people from Boise is that they are polite. I don't have a problem admitting I have been unknowingly wrong when people are polite about it.

I always thought it was Boy-zee too.... but I shall try to remember the correct pronunciation from now on. Wonder why hardly anyone outside the area pronounces it Boy-see? *shrugs*

"Omar Jacobs isn't that good because he plays against MAC opponents."

That's why I hate Craig James.
You think they would have learned how stupid that thinking is after Pennington, Leftwich, Roethlisberger, Harris, etc. but stupid is as stupid does. When BG played Wisconsin, the idiot announcers were saying Jacobs was only good because he was playing against Wisconsin's lousy D. Geesh.

Hey, speak for yourself. :D
I was just down there at Mammoth Cave with my daughter in early August. She was getting quite a kick out of the accents! Not only is it Bowlin' Green down there but the emphasis in on Bowlin' instead of Green. I think she got the biggest kick when one of the naturalists mentioned a program to be held at the outdoor theater in the park. Thats "the" (long e) "a" (long a) and a quick "ter". Fortunately she showed a bit of respect and didn't giggle until he was out of ear shot.
That is a funny tid bit BG Fan. At the GMAC Bowl the announcer seemed to put the emphasis on Bowling as well, "Jacobs pass complete to Sharon. First down, BOWLIN green."

Reminds me of a family trip we took to the south when I was about 11 or 12. Most of our family vacations are centered around sports and on this trip to Florida we stopped at some minor league ball parks on our way south- Durham, NC, Burlington, NC, Knoxville, TN, Kinston, NC, and Bluefield WV.

At the time I was in to collecting lapel pins (dont' ask me why). So I can remember going to a merch stand and asking if they had any Pins. And the lady replied "You mean peans you write with?" It was quite a go around tryign to get her to realize I was looking for Pins not Pens.

When we played University of Kentucky in the early 80's, they even had it on the scoreboard as "Bowlin Green".

I think Mr. Douchebag and Craig James are really secret lovers. That's why Mr. Douchebag really left ESPN. It is a company policy that employees cannot date each other. Now their love can blossom into the flower that they so desire.

Absolutely.

Two college football writers weren't impressed with James' act during the Boise game when he tried to incorporate a rap song into his analysis:

I'll give you all one guess as to who is calling the game tomorrow night. I will tell you that it's not Dick Vitale. Surely ESPN has someone on the payroll that would actually enjoy calling a non-BCS game. Why must they continue to put this num-nutz on the air?

hey, we're 1-0 with him calling games that are (A) played in OH and (B) this year.
