Omar on 1470

Post by hammb »

Okay, I know it seems that most people are pretty confident that Omar will be back against Miami, but I have been less than convinced. Today on 1470 they played the entire Omar Jacobs interview from the press conference, and it really doesn't sound that promising guys.

I don't know if anyone else heard it, but Omar didn't say anything to make anyone believe that he was for sure ready to play. In fact when asked, he couldn't rule out the possibility that he might not return at all this year.

When talking about his condition he said that he has regained his range of motion and that he is almost painfree. He mentioned that he has resumed weight training. However he made sure to reiterate that walking around campus is different from playing a football game, and he doesn't know how his shoulder will hold up to a game.

Also of note was that when he demonstrated to the crowd his range of motion he did so with his RIGHT shoulder, not the injured one. I cannot say I really know anything, but I'd be a little suspicious of a player saying he regained his range of motion and then demonstrated that with the healthy shoulder, not the injured one.

Norm commented that he expects Omar to try and give it a go, because that's the type of player that he is, but he speculated that he isn't anywhere near to healthy. I don't know how much to respect his opinion, but from the quotes & the general tone of the conference I'd say that it's not much better than 50/50 whether he'll go.

Just thought I'd throw this out there, because the prevailing consensus here seems to be that he was gonna play, but I really haven't seen/heard anything to make me believe it's even close to a sure thing.

I'm going to pretend that this is all part of a larger brinkmanship scheme, but I am still confident in AT's ability to run our offense. He has gotten some valuable PT, and if necessary, I think Brandon may be willing to take his training wheels off against Miami. Many around here will call me crazy because we "only" scored 24 points against "a 1-9 team," but screw them. Don't care.

I'm perplexed by this statement. How can one tell this from a radio interview?

All of the comments certainly make it seem up in the air. I'm hopeful that this is all a big scheme to make Miami's coaches prep for 2 quarterbacks. I want Omar to play, but if there is any chance that a big hit could cause long-term damage to his shoulder, then I want AT in there.

Thanks hamm.. I was wondering why so many people were sold on Omar being ready for the Miami game.. and now I know it's all speculation, or at least appears to be.
With or without Omar, the Falcons will be ready.

Well, when he was demonstrating his range of motion he said, "I'll use my right arm"

Then when they were discussing the interview Norm re-iterated that he demonstrated the range of motion with his healthy shoulder, not the injured one.

My guess(I didn't hear the clips or attend the press conference either) is that it goes something like this

Omar was making statements at the weekly Tuesday press conference.

Norm was there recording the comments.

When Omar said he regained the motion and demonstrated it to the crowd Norm observed this.

Norm was so observant that he noticed Omar was showing his range with his right shoulder not his injured left one.

Norm then shared it with his listeners.

My guess is that Miami's coaches are already preparing for two quarterbacks.. and are not tuned into Norm Lamer's "talk show."

If Omar can't play, we're going to have to open up the playbook for AT, no doubt. We must beat Miami to stay in the MAC race, period. And with that said, we've got to go down there and let it all hang out. I've noticed our offense has gotten more and more conservative ever since Omar went down. Against WMU, we mixed it up a good bit (had to after we got so far behind), but against Akron and then against Kent State, we really played it close to the chest. We could afford to vs. Kent State because, well, they aren't very good. But if we play it that way against Miami, I think we'll get torched.

Can anyone get a sneak peak of practice this week and see if Omar or AT is getting the first team reps?

Once again, the positive musings from BGSU33.
Think there's a reason the offense is different when AT is under center?
Hmmm..... He's a different type of quarterback.

2 things.

1 -- please stop the bickering about the tone of posts.

B -- If anyone gets a sneak peek of practice, no need to put information out there.

I'm with hammb and some of the others- I don't think Omar will be back for Miami. That is my gut feeling.

Hey windycityfalcon, WTF is your problem? Do you just sit by your computer and wait for me to make a post to get your dig in? You've been doing this the last few days and it's getting old. If you don't like my posts, that is fine, I'm cool with that. But why must you follow nearly all of them with some shitty remark? If you're that obsessed with it, just send me a private message everytime and get it out of your system and quit being such a dick about it.
