And with the NHL locked out, he's got PLENTY of time on his hands, too! (I think you meant Vance Joseph, actually, but I hear ya! )

DD-

Did he have an offer at Duke, too? I remember him flying down to Louisville once, supposedly coming back to tell the team he was leaving over a "last supper" of sorts, then the next day backing out. Though I also heard speculation that Jesse Jackson was ready to raise a fit about the hiring process, and Louisville went a different direction with Ron (?) Turner.

I agree with the notion that we have to stop getting picked by non-BCS teams. If we don't have the money to keep up, how do we get the money? We can't always offer sweet deals like Utah, but how are other non-BCS schools that much different than us that they can grab our coaches? I think UM was a different situation, he always had his eye on getting to the next level, whatever that may be, but if a guy like Coach Brandon, who seems completely dedicated to the program and the University skips town as well, we may have a pattern to worry about. With the sweet deal UM got, would taking the head job at UNLV be any more lucrative than the assistants job Coach Brandon turned down in Utah?

I think you mean Ron Cooper.

If I'm not mistaken, he remains the last guy to post a winning season at Eastern Michigan.

Yeah, Vance Joseph...duh! Anyway, its not greedy to want to maximize the earning potential your skills bring. We have no right to ask anyone to work here who can do better elsewhere. You coach five years @ $600K and you are financially set for life, regardless of what happens to your career or you. Wanting security isn't one of the deadly sins.

Schad: There might be someone like that, but the odds of getting there are so long that I don't think most people adopt it as a real goal.

Finally W-hog; You're exactly right. Its not that we are a stepping stone, its WHO we are a stepping stone.

Like I said before, I hope he stays as long as its the best thing for him, and I hope he's straight with us.

Candidly, I don't think he beats out at least two of the other candidates. But if the success continues, we will have this discussion again.

actually, they had a winning record in '95, but Cooper never did in either of his two seasons with the Huron-Eagles

I couldn't agree more. Go out and find another hot young fiery guy. The next Urban Meyer, if you will.

There's got to be someone out there that relishes the challenge of building a program a la Joe Paterno or an Eddie Robinson.

I recognize it's a dangerous thing to try to do. At WMU, the Gary Darnell situation is a lesson for all MAC coaches. He's been loyal, and I've got to think his days are numbered.
Darnell wasn't being loyal. He screwed up. He had the UNC job wrapped up, but acted like they should give him the key to the President's safe and a weekly romp with his wife. Having to come back, during a title game week, with your tail between your legs has really cost him up there.

Home and away versus Wisconsin & Boise. Marshall is leaving. Re-alignment of MAC with what I believe will be better chances for BG to go to bowl games. A couple more good years and at least one more bowl appearence and there will be a couple of Big Ten schools calling. Obviously I would want him to stay for as long as we can keep him. I think UNLV is a dead-end.
Yeah...I remember us thinking that Utah was a dead-end too...They're only ranked 14th right now... :(

And its a "dead end" which, over the three years you mentioned, would pay him a $1 million more than we would.
