J-Swoop - I think the difference here may be that the rain will persist throughout the night and that the temperatures will be falling as fast as the rain, plus calls for some BG-type winds. Could be a real smashmouth type of game.JohnnySwoop '85 wrote:I think it rained a lot down in Mobile last December...that didn't stop a slew of TD passes...some good long ones at that.
I think it sleeted a lot last year against Ball State that didn't stop a bunch of scoring either.
Maybe our problem has been that the weather has been too good this year.

I think the weather will have an effect on both teams...both running and passing with rain and 15-25 mph winds. If Omar plays, I see Brandon willing to throw more passes downfield than with AT, and similar with J-Crew, wind over rain so the running game may be scaled back a tad.
If everything goes as we hope, being Omar plays and Pope is a big part of the offense...I see a victory, albeit a narrow one.
BG 35
J-Crew U 31

Here's the forecast for Oxford tomorrow. Rain and 19 mph winds out of the south. If that is the case, they'll be blowing right past the scoreboard at the open end of the field, down the length of the field. Fortunately, there is a hill with a forest on the other side of Bonham that may hold off some of these winds. The rain shouldn't affect the field since it is turf.

Those who do not learn from history are doomed to repeat it. I don't think our current coaching staff has done very good at learning from their past mistakes in playing on the road, on a weeknight, on TV, so I am going to say:
BG 17
MU 42

Hey Warthog, that was going to be my prediction before I went with 42-14. The reason that I chose 14 instead of 17 is because I didn't know if Brandon would let the kicker try a field goal, and if he would, whether the kicker would make it. So, I went with 14.
The reason why you are both wrong...
Even if we lose, no way do we not score more than 17 (this solely based on Omar playing). Even in the Boise debacle, we came outa there with 20 and that was a disastrous night on offense and defense. I also think our guys were a little starry eyed and caught up in the mystique of the blue turf, flying to Boise, and not having PJ Pope. With all of our key weapons on the field and mostly healthy, this offense has only once scored less than 27 and that was NIU last year. Omar was in his 3rd start and the plays were very limited because we had not yet discovered how good/acurate he is. The offense was quite conservative. We have opened it up since then and absolutely no way do we leave that game with 14 or 17.
once again...I BELIEVE!!!
GO BG!!!
We scored 6 against Boise and got two garbage TDs after it was 48-6. I wouldn't exactly call that a ringing endorsement for our offense.BelieveNBG wrote:Even if we lose, no way do we not score more than 17 (this solely based on Omar playing). Miami is an ever improving ball club with a great running game, and an even better passing attack. If Omar gets a start it would be a huge psychological surge. And some creative play calling on offense would certainly help as well. Running Pope up the gut on first down for either a 2 inch gain or no gain at all is always a real "downer" for me and seems to set the tone for the rest of the offensive series. We need some razzle-dazzles, something different. Defensively, unless the weather favors BG, Miami is gonna take it to us. The speed just isn't there to do the job. Go BG!

Timchenko misses two extra points, but with 15 seconds left with the wind at his back kicks a 32 yd. winning field goal. Brandon names Timchenko the player of the game. ô¿ô
Some people still continue to argue that we scored 20 points in that game, as if we would've won had we only given up 17. I gave up arguing about it long ago, but in my mind we scored 6 points in that game. The fact that Boise's backups let us throw the ball on them is very little consolation in my mind.Warthog wrote:We scored 6 against Boise and got two garbage TDs after it was 48-6. Look guys, we are all forgetting one huge thing. This is a different team with Omar Jacobs in the lineup. We beat the first 3 conference teams we played, two of them by double digit margins and were rolling with #4 doing his thing. And we would have beaten Western Michigan too if not for the injury because we were already up 7-0 and driving for more. It was after that injury play that you could just see the turn in momentum. The defense went from getting penetration up front to getting pushed around, and the O-Line went from strong blocking to bad. The recievers started dropping passes. If that injury to Jacobs doesn't happen, we probably kick WMU's butt and beat Akron the next week too, since AT's mistakes in the red zone (a fumble and a pick) cost us that game.
With Omar back in the lineup, the Falcons are a much better team. Omar is going to be playing tonight, so I issue my prediction.
Bowling Green - 42
Miami - 24
