"Official" Tie breaker news

Post by always a falcon »

Sorry if it has been posted- little groggy today.

If Toledo beats NIU, and Miami beats the Bobkittens, we win even if we happen to lose to UT . WHICH WE WON"T

The tie breaker is cross conference and we beat Ball State.

WRONG!!!!!!!!!! SORRY!!!!!!!!!!!!!

If we lose, and Akron wins, Akron goes.... First tie breaker is head to head and we lost to Akron. Sorry to say it...He just need to win!!

Not if miami wins -- that would create a three way tie and fall to cross-conference opponents records. There is detailed conversation on this in the tie breaker thread

Always ... but if the above scenario plays out, aren't we all 1-2 in cross conference play?

BG ... beat Ball State, lost to Western, Toledo
Miami ... beat Eastern, lost to Northern, Central
Akron ... beat Northern, lost to Central, Ball State

No common opponent in cross conference here.

What's the next tie-breaker...

Record against crossover opponents is irrelevant. The third tie-breaker is the record OF your crossover opponenets, meaning the team that played the tougher crossover opponents gets the nod. Check out the tie-breaker thread for J4H and mine's dicussion on the topic.

Short answer is if UT wins tonight, we look solid. It would all hinge on Miami beating Ohio to create a three way tie, instead of just a two-way tie with Akron.

So in the proverbial nutshell..

We beat Toledo....WE WIN

Should the unspoken occur...then we need Miami to win against OU, and also assuming Akron beats Kent then we really need Miami to beat OU and Toledo to beat NIU.

You know what I say....Go RRRRRockets and Redskins!! Serves the Zips rightfully for thinking they can grab the glory without facing OMAR

Guys- it doesn't matter about Akron because they already have 3 losses and we only have 2. Miami beat them and we beat Miami. I know we lost to them, but somehow- it works.

I wish I could tell you where I got it but I can't

But ...

If the unspeakable happens,
i.e.
UT > BG
MU > OU
AU > KSU

Then BG, MU and AU all have three conference losses.

You are right. But then is gets to we beat Miami- Miami beat Akron, and we have the cross over tie breaker.EVEN though we lost to Akron. Doesn't seem right- but that is what the guys who get paid to know this say!

we don't have the crossover tie-breaker yet. It depends on the last week of MAC action.

Hi guys and gals. Still a little groggy from last night but wanted to chime in on the tie-breakers.

Here's the deal -- if Northern loses tonight and Miami wins on Monday, BGSU clinches.

Here are some of my calculations on the tie-breaker that is mattering the most right now, the winning percentage of the cross-divisonal opponents.

BG - 14-6 - (Western, UT, Ball state) ------- Would be 15-6 if UT beats them (hence the need for the tiebreaker), worst is 15-9. If UT wins tonight, worst is 16-8.

Akron - 12-8 - (Northern, Ball State, Central). -- Best is 15-9. ------ If Northern loses tonight, best is 14-10. (CMU and Ball State play each other so guaranteed one loss.)

Miami - 10-10 - Central, Eastern, Northern. -- best is 14-10, worst is 10-14.

-- If BG and Akron's cross divisional opponents finish with the same record (which would be 15-9) Akron wins via the head-to-head game.

-- FYI, I just found out the records against the cross-divisional teams don't matter, just the winning percentages of those teams.

Maureen:

It saddens me that even groggy-headed, you are the clearest thinking person on the board.

Thanks!

Honestly I can't see the Bobcats losing to Miami in Peden...

I can't rule out anything in this year's MAC. Don't underestimate the "pissed off" factor in this game. Miami is still going to be hurting from how bad they played last night. I expect them to rebound with a vengeance.

I have a degree in history, all this math-like stuff hurts my head.

Screw the rest, beat Toledo, if only to have a chance to beat them twice in one season!
