Good job Coach!

Post by hammb »

Gotta give some props to coach Brandon tonight. Having your team in the locker room for an extra 2 1/2 hours cannot be good for your emotions. The staff did a good job keeping them ready, and they still came out fired up!

Great job by the defense. The stats for the defense in this game are very hard to figure out. The rush defense was really good, but the punt botches skew those stats to the gaudy number that it ended up. However, when you look at total yardage most of the yardage Miami gained was when the game was pretty much out of hand. The stats don't really tell an accurate tale, but watching the game, the defense was phenomenal. I think Gibby said in the post game show that Miami was 2 of 12 on 3rd down & 1 of 7 on 4th down. That's 3 of 19 in drive extending situations. Awesome job by the defense on those plays. The front 4 was able to get pressure on Betts, even without blitzing on a number of occasions. The secondary & LBs also took advantage of some poor throws when Betts was pressured. Most importantly the tackling was the best it's been all year. There might've been one or two misses, but not like the epidemic we've seen most of this year.

STs was mostly solid. We got all our punts off, and made a FG. However, missing 2 XPs is never good. We did have much better coverage on our kickoffs than we're used to seeing. Chuck had some good returns as well.

The offense worked with a short field for much of the night and did a great job cashing in once they got into the redzone. I think they were 6 of 6 with only 1 FG. That will win you a lot of games :) They are still not near what they were last year, and that's disappointing. Omar missed some throws, but the 2nd TD to Sanders was a BEAUTIFUL throw...not sure how he threaded that needle. PJ gave us a lot of carries, but little production for them, BJ looked to have much more explosion when he got the ball. The Sanders reverse was a perfect play call and it was held to a 9 yard gain only by a great play by the Miami Safety, that looked like it could've been a huge one. Good call on the Partridge TD pass as well...caught Miami off guard on that one. Maybe it was just the weather, or Omar being rusty, but this offense is still not what it was last year.

All in all, it was a good job by our coaching staff to finally get a road MAC win, an ESPN win, and keep hold of our own destiny.

Yup. I think it's relatively safe to assume that if the team we saw play last night showed up against Wisky in the third, Boise, Western, and Akron we would have at most one loss right now irregardless[sic] of Omar's status. You can't tell me Western or Akron would have scored more than 14 points against the D we saw last night. Where have all those guys been hiding?

Great win and all. I am as shocked as the next guy about how it went down. But given all that here is my hidden key to the game: the coin flip.

When most teams win the flip, they defer to the second half. When we win it, we ALWAYS take the ball. So what happened last night? We won the toss and DEFERRED! That simple decision set the stage for us to be playing with the weather most of the night. It allowed us to jump out in front early and set the stage for the entire game. That was an obvious coaching decision to defer, so I salute the coach for doing something different to try to get a different results. It is the little things like this that can make a huge difference in the results.

No clue where they've been hiding, but it was nice to see them show themselves. I hope they return next Tuesday as well. As good a job as the coaches did last night, it only makes the cynic in me think where was this sort of performance all season? This team has tons of talent, and it finally showed up last night.

Great win last night. Happy to see the Falcons win on national tv, even if it was delayed a bit. Glad I didn't use my tickets. I was kicking myself for not going at first, but once I heard on 1360 that the game was delayed, I decided the local tavern would be a better fit.

Omar looked great, D was obviously on, now they just have to play within themselves against Bancroft High.

Great point. I think GB generally wants the ball first because of our success on first drives last year. It seemed like every time we got the ball, we scored. It forced the opponent to play catch up. Things are different this year. I think the move gave our D a confidence boost and they responded. I hope he does the same next week if we win the toss.

I have to agree. Credit where credit is due, we had a winning game plan, we took advantage of mistakes, we played through the tough challenges, and I felt the defense really came ready to play. We mixed things up, coverage was good, and the line played well. Of everything, that's the best thing I saw.

The O could use some fine tuning, and hopefully we're just getting our legs back for the big game next week.

Other years we have peaked too early--wouldn't it be cool if we hit our peak right now?

Apollo Creed would've made a hell of a strong safety.

Pretty sure he played LB for the Raiders...so I'm gonna say he would've been a good LB!

Rocky II is a sweet movie.
