I wish I could tell you where I got it but I can't
But ...

If the unspeakable happens,
i.e.
UT > BG
MU > OU
AU > KSU

Then BG, MU and AU all have three conference losses.
Honestly I can't see the Bobcats losing to Miami in Peden...
I can't rule out anything in this year's MAC. Don't underestimate the "pissed off" factor in this game. Miami is still going to be hurting from how bad they played last night. I expect them to rebound with a vengeance.
Same with Ohio at Akron last night. Solich will have the cats fired up for their last home game, trust me. Plus we have nothing to worry about.. we're going to beat UT!

rc ... I dunno. The Snobkitties are riding a two-game losing streak and looked totally overmatched last night. I'm sure Frank will pull out all the stops, but I'm not convinced it will be enough.

Here's the deal -- if Northern loses tonight and Miami wins on Monday, BGSU clinches.

Here are some of my calculations on the tie-breaker that is mattering the most right now, the winning percentage of the cross-divisonal opponents.

BG - 14-6 - (Western, UT, Ball state) ------- Would be 15-6 if UT beats them (hence the need for the tiebreaker), worst is 15-9. If UT wins tonight, worst is 16-8.

Akron - 12-8 - (Northern, Ball State, Central). -- Best is 15-9. ------ If Northern loses tonight, best is 14-10. (CMU and Ball State play each other so guaranteed one loss.)

Miami - 10-10 - Central, Eastern, Northern. -- best is 14-10, worst is 10-14.

-- If BG and Akron's cross divisional opponents finish with the same record (which would be 15-9) Akron wins via the head-to-head game.

-- FYI, I just found out the records against the cross-divisional teams don't matter, just the winning percentages of those teams.
Thanks for the info. I was asking around last night if anyone had any idea what the tie-breaks were, this is exactly what I was wondering about. Thanks for sharing what you know.

Don't get me wrong, I would just like to beat Toledo and get into the MACC. However, my favorite scenario plays out like this:

NIU beats Toledo
BG beats Toledo
Western beats NIU

I believe we would then get Western in the MACC. I think a little payback is in order. Cue James Brown!

I did the math also and this is what I came up, though I am groggy, too

If the Cats lose to Miami, they will have the same record as they did pre-Solich. Got Frank? Anyhow, Miami played like crap against us, and they won't do it twice in a row.

Obviously, the best way to do it would be to beat Toledo. I don't even want to think about the alternative but what you guys are saying is that there is a good backup plan? Let me try and understand this...

We should root for Toledo tonight because a Toledo victory over Northern Illinois ensures that our cross-conference opponents record would be better than Akron's. That is the 4th tiebreaker, which would set things in our favor heading to the final week.

Monday 11/21 - We need Miami to beat Ohio in those teams' season finale in Athens. A win by Miami coupled with a victory by Toledo tonight gives us the tiebreak in the potential 3-way Miami-BG-Akron scenario and the MAC East Championship even before we take the field Tuesday night.

In other words, the only way we can possibly lose the MAC East is if Miami loses to Ohio, we lose to Toledo, and Akron beats Kent State. I'm sorry, but all three of those things would require a miracle. We're sitting pretty good. If only Omar wasn't out for the Akron game, we wouldn't be talking about this right now because we would have crushed Akron and the race would be over.

If Miami beats Ohio, and BG loses to Toledo, only Akron is eliminated. BG goes to the MACC, but shares the MAC East Division Champs title with Miami. So, technically Miami would three peat.

Not gonna happen but maybe.

Well, technically, no we wouldn't share the title. That's what we have tiebreakers for. :P

I think it is a co-champion, with the tie-breaker used to determine who plays in MACC. And if we play in it, I could care less about someone else's three-peat.

Bowls

Post by frazeefrenzie'97 »

What are our options so to speak regarding post-season, should we not win the MAC? perish the thought. I would think that bowls would be pretty excited about taking us because of our post-season success the last two years. Oviously I'd love for BG to go back to Detroit so I can run up and see them. Anywhere would be good though.

Anyone have any thoughts?

P.S. I'm a proud '97 grad and this is the first time I've seen this site. I'm sorry I've been missing out, it's great.

Only MAC 1 and 2 finishers get in...most likely Motor City or GMAC. I do kind of like your point about getting an invite just becaause we are 2-0 in the last outings but if we don't get to the MACC at the very least...I doubt we'll get a wildcard invite.

Although don't South Carolina and Clemson still need to play each other?

tie breaker would be based on the western cnference record

Post by jerzyboy247 »

the tie breaker would be based on the western conference record and how those teams performed. BG in this case, if Toledo wins tonight, would help us out. But we need to beat Toledo in order to end this subject and we sould just think about our next game and not rely on other teams......Thanks OU :x

With Toledo losing to NIU, this only increases the need for us to win against Toledo next week. We win, we're in, we lose, I just have a strong feeling we'll get bumped by a tie-break against us.
GO BG!!!
