Any special ticket promotions for BG/UT game?

Post by BGSU33 »

Does anyone know if there are any special ticket promotions for the BG/UT game? I hope so. With students on their way home for break, the weather likely to be cold and the game on TV, I have a feeling we may not see the usual crowd for this game - despite how big it will be for both teams. I think they should start selling remaining tickets for like $5.00 each or something. I see Ohio is doing a promotion where you get a game ticket free for a canned food donation with the purchase of one ticket or something like that.

Here is the bottom line:

If the community does not come out to support this team for this game then we need to move the University because they don't deserve the support that we give them. Period.

I'm sick of all of this talk about needing to do promotions and crap. Against Akron, yeah, I'll give ya that one, but for this game? You have got to be kidding me. I'm going to pretend you are, because I don't think my sanity could handle it if you're not.

I wish I could say I was kidding. But I have a feeling there will be empty seats. I hope I am wrong. My fiancee and I will be coming, but that's just two seats we'll be taking up and that's about 23,000-plus short of a sellout. When I saw the Glass Bowl with so many empty seats in a game against a quality NIU opponent, on senior night, in a game UT could clinch the MAC West, I couldn't help but to start wondering about our game too.

Honestly, I did too. But the difference between Toledo and Bowling Green is that the entire regional commerce is not facilitated by the presence of the University of Toledo. It is only a drop in the bucket up there. The City of Bowling Green is only as important as it is and the regional commercial hub that it is because of the money that the University's students, faculty and staff spend there.

One would think that the city's residents would be grateful for that, at least in some small way, but most who are not affiliated with the U. choose to see it as a nuisance, instead. A nationally televised game like this brings a LOT of attention, noteriety, and $$$ into the city, yet most people could care less, and probably wish the traffic wasn't so bad around the I-75 interchange. It is easy to say that the University has not done a very good job of endearing itself to the City, but what has the City done to support the University lately? The University can only do so much.

Can you tell this is a sore spot for me? :?

That is great to hear! Some around here are annoyed by the things, but the fact of the matter is that the students LOVE them! I can't even begin to describe how much fun it was to be in the middle of all of those things during the NIU and UT games in 2003. Ahhhhh, memories...

Maybe the lack of community attendance has to do with the negativety on these boards. People that find this site and don't know much about the team can get on and see these people who seem to be die-hards bashing the team. I'm sure that doesn't add to their desire to go to games.

With 1000+ users, I know people don't register and still read. This site is a lot bigger than most of us realize. Just a possible thought. Not bashing anyone.

My dad will be there along with me, I think my mom isn't a fan of the cold. The university, along with students need to get the community, friends and family to get their butts to the biggest UT/BG game in some time.

The students aren't the problem with attendance. The higher price (why, I have no idea) for the tickets to this game are going to drive families away. $26/each? Come on BG, we're supposed to be anti-big school.

Which means there will be some hung-over students driving home Wednesday morning. Isn't that great :?
