It's been a long time since ...

Post by 1987alum »

Toledo came into the Battle of I-75 after a loss, especially a conference loss.

Yes, my geek factor is particularly high this week.

 Toledo has faced Bowling Green after a victory every year since back-to-back ties in 1995 and 1994.

 The last time Toledo came into a game against BG after a loss was 1991 (a loss to Washington).

 The last time Toledo came into a game against BG after a MAC loss was 1989 (a loss to EMU). That was the last of three years that Toledo lost just before the BG game (1988 to McNeese State and 1987 to Northern Illinois).

Important data? Meaningful data? Nope, not at all. But am I supposed to do until gametime? Work? Please.

What is the record of the UT-BG games in which Toledo came in after a loss?

Since 1950, Toledo is 2-17-1 against BG when coming into the game after a loss. However, it is a 2-3 record against BG in the last 15 years. Most of those losses came when Toledo was bad and losing to pretty much everyone week after week. If you break it down even further Toledo is 2-1 against BG in games after a loss, in seasons that Toledo had a winning record (a 6-5 record all 3 times).

The fact is that Bowling Green has never faced a Rocket team that loss the week before BG and won at least 7 games in a season. Toledo is 7-3 right now so this is going to be a first.
