ESPN and MAC Bowls interesting point made several times
I hear mention several times during this NIU Ut game.
The MAC has Two Bowl tie ins. no where in the Bowl Contracts does it say the east and West winers must go, the GMAC and Motor City get To pick from the whole MAC.
not that the MACC would not be picked I dont see how the MACC could not be picked, but the second slot is realy wide open. Just like all things right now...we must first beat Toledo, then if we win, beat who ever it is in the MACC and we should have earned a bowl.
Yet it is interesting the number of times I have heard these guys mention this.

YEs my lord I remember that. i was real jumpy untill i heard we got the bid.
You know what seeing your banner makes me think of doing...
Bringing a grill into the stadium right behind the toledo bench with fan blowing the smoke of ribs, the essence of Brats and toasted buns at Tom...I wonder if there is a rule against grills on the side lines. With all that gator aid around there is little chance of fire.

Funny you mentioned something like that. In one of my drunken moments last night following the Miami game I came up with the idea of rigging bratwurst and candy bars to sticks with string to sort of dangle over the fence as Toledo came out. . . Not one of my better moments, but still a funny thing to think about in a Bugs Bunny kind of way. . .

Sounds like most of you have short memory. Didn't three MAC teams make it last year? After all, isn't the reason BG went to Mobile because the MAC East and West Champ went to the Motor City and one other bowl?
The key is, a team must win 6 games to go to a bowl. If a bowl can't fullfill its conference tie-ins, then they can choose any team at-large (usually from a CUSA or Big East type conference. Fortunately, BG has met that obligation. Now they just have to take care of business on Tuesday.

Fair enough (though actually five MAC teams went to a bowl last year), but before 2004, the last time more than two MAC teams went was in 1974.cbjhack wrote:Sounds like most of you have short memory. We're only guaranteed two, so that's pretty much what we have to assume until we know otherwise.

And also, there was a shortage of bowl-eligible teams last season, leaving a lot of bowl spots open for teams with qualifying records that may not necessarily have the big audience numbers (ie, MAC schools) that bowls look for. As far as I can tell, there doesn't seem to be a shortage this season. Correct me if I'm wrong, though.

And that doesn't really count.FliccGirl wrote:Fair enough (though actually five MAC teams went to a bowl last year), but before 2004, the last time more than two MAC teams went was in 1974.
Central Michigan played in the Pioneer Bowl or something like that. In reality, it was the Division II championship game -- nothing to do with the MAC. The Chips wouldn't start full MAC play until the next season.
Miami played in the Tangerine Bowl that year... if there was another bowl game that season, it isn't coming to mind.

There will be a shortage - about 3 or 4 teams.
Edit: That is, some of the conferences won't be able to fill their slots. It seems, however, that the overall pool of bowl-eligible teams will be larger than last year.

Oh, you're right. I got the info from the MAC webpage (link) and didn't look closely at the teams, just at the number listed per year. They've got Central Michigan listed for two that year. *shrugs*Schadenfreude wrote:And that doesn't really count.FliccGirl wrote:Fair enough (though actually five MAC teams went to a bowl last year), but before 2004, the last time more than two MAC teams went was in 1974.

And, to clarify, it sounds like one of those Central Michigan bowl games was the Division II semifinal and the other was the final.FliccGirl wrote:Oh, you're right.
