If Leyfeld is out, we will need to run a 4 guard offense at times. This leaves us with:

0 - Centers
3 - Forwards (Soler, Rad, Marschall)
4 - 2 Guards (Wright, Samarco, Wilson, Clements)
2 - PG Guards (Moon, Floyd)

It should be fun to watch. If they are athletic enough, they should be able to compete in the MAC.

That's because your a nobody.

My point was that if an athlete from the University went to the hospital and had an x-ray, I am sure that it would get read immediately. None of this "oh, it will get read when the radiologist comes in on Monday afternoon" stuff. The athletic dept has enough doctors, etc on the payroll that they would get some answers to an x-ray a little quicker than the rest of would.
To quote Elvis Costello "you're nobody 'til somebody thinks you're a bastard".

My dad was a Radiologist,...it's not that unusual for an xray to be inconclusive or to have some kind of oddity on it that requires the input of another physician to get the correct diagnosis. Sometimes Physicians want to be sure that they see what they think they see, so they'll have a colleague take a look. BGSU hoops aren't so high on the food chain that we can shortcut that process....

playing small is not bad

Post by commonsense »

Playing small is not a bad option. At the college level, especially in the MAC taking away the other teams center, as an offensive weapon, is not hard to do through scouting and help defense. Most big guys are stiffs and can only guard another big stiff. Last year Ohio played with a 6' 8" center (who was not a stiff) and four other players who could play all over the floor. They were hard to match up with. Last year when the falcons were at their best we played small. Fitch, Reimold and Almanson were our front court. They were not usually taller than the other teams. The other teams couldnt guard them, but we could guard them, rarely being hurt by a big center. Last years team had no stand out rebounder, but rarely got out rebounded either. When Fitch went down, this was over, Vandermeer played for lack of a better option. The team never looked the same. Coach Dakich has made this work before. Obviously we have young players, but I believe playing small is better.

So the $25,000 question is what did he do to his foot?

Is there a doctor in the house?

I'm not a doctor, but I am incredible klutz. With that said, a film that is taken right after a trauma is not always 100 percent accurate. Other factors, particularly swelling, can scew the results. Therefore, it is common practice to wait a couple days and do a second film when the swelling has gone down. Anyway...

It's odd that Lefeld, in his third year in the program, would get a stress fracture, especially after a summer of hard work. My money's on a bone bruise. With Dusan, a stress fracture makes more sense. He was probably not used to working as hard as DD demands, and his muscles became fatigued after months of hard pounding. With muscle fatigue, bones absorbing more shock resulting in susceptability to stress factures.

I have known Lefeld for a long time, and I dont know officially what the problem is right now, but he has had problems with his feet since he was little. As often kids that grow rapidly can have.

3rd year injuries

Post by commonsense »

Not sure that being in your third year of college basketball has much to do with preventing stress related injuries. I believe Almanson was in his third year when he had a stress fracture. Stacy and Phillips both endured plantar fasciitis in their third years, which is also a stress related injury to the plantar fascia. All of these resulted in medical redshirts. I could be wrong, but Dusan is the first freshman I can remember having a stress fracture. Please let me know if that is not right.

Here's DD in the Sentinel:

"Doctors told him he couldn't play basketball and they knew this was going to come eventually. His X-rays are going to be read by a radiologist and we're hoping and praying it's not any type of fraccture in there."

Dakich said last night on his radio show that it is not a stress fracture. He said Lefeld won't practice much a la Germain Fitch.
