Miami leading Ohio

Post by Warthog »

I know I jinxed Ball State Saturday when I posted that they were leading in the third quarter so I will try it again with Miami. RedHawks up 24-7 with 11:00 minutes to go in the third quarter.

Per the thing in today's S-T we WANT a Miami win and a Western win- that would create the three way tie that propels us, right?

Yeah Miami dominated OU. They didn't even really look that good while doing it. OU is just bad.

While the record may not be the same, the program has clearly changed.

Solich brought in a good recruiting class last year and while many freshmen played, a number of very good players took a redshirt. There will be a lot more talent on the field next year than this year.

Solich didn't really get to install his offense this year; he'll have the right athletes in the right spots next year and I suspect we'll see a more consistent, productive offense from them moving forward. In particular, Solich kept gritting his teeth and sending Everson out there as QB, redshirting a freshman and waiting for a transfer to sit out his year.

Finally, Ohio averaged more than 18,000 fans at home this year. Clearly, the support for the program has grown.

So, in short, while I am happy that all that hype about Solich instantly turning Ohio into a MAC dynamo turned out to be just that - hype, I don't think it's wise to dismiss the program as hopeless. I expect the Snobkitties to be much-improved next year and ready for division title contention no later than the 2007.

Fair enough, though I would argue he had the perfect team for the offense he wants to run.

As bad as it may have looked, they had almost 10,000 people at Peden last night. Not too bad when consider what we drew for Akron in a game that had major title implications, while Miami & Ohio were both just playing for pride.

Here are there home attendance figures for 2005...

24545 Pitt
16721 Ball State ... yes, Ball State
17959 Kent State ... yes, Kent State
21034 Toledo
9908 Miami

That's an averge of 18,033 for the season.

For comparison purposes, here are BG's home numbers thus far...

19462 Temple
14177 Ohio
13959 Western Michigan
9608 Akron

Thus far, BG's average is 14,301.
To match Ohio's average, we need 32,961 for Toledo. Obviously, ain't gonna happen.
To average 15,000 for the year, we need 17,794, which seems doable.
If we get 23,000 for the UT game, we'll end up with an average home attendance of 16,041, or less than Ohio had for every home game, save Miami.
