Referees, tight ends and 1 yard pass completions
Referees, tight ends and 1 yard pass completions
Meet the deciding factors in the game, clearly evident to anyone who watched. (Toledo making plays is a given, Rocket lurkers)
1) While blaming the refs is the lament of all fans whose teams lost close games, you can't deny that two scoring drives accounting for 10 Toledo points were kept alive by horrendous calls by the officials. Devon Parks was also being held on nearly every play.
2) The defensive scheme simply did not adjust enough to account for the tight end. I have never emailed a coach, but when we get scorched play after play, let alone year after year, by the damn Toledo tight end (whoever it happens to be that particular year) you'd think someone would take notice and make adjustments.
3) Omar seemed to have the killer instinct back on the pass to Sanders, but throwing a 1 yard completion to Sharon on 3rd and 6 in the second OT and dinking and dunking down the field on the final drive in regulation was shocking. He played OK, but both he and the offense in general need to realize that 1-5 yard pass plays when the game is on the line doesn't get it done. It's incumbant on the receivers to get themselves open and for Omar to deliver the ball for 1st down yardage. The play calling in general also reflected a lack of aggressiveness and the creativity we have grown accoustomed to.
This would have been a thread thanking the seniors for their contributions to the program and their outstanding effort last night, but it looks like they might have another shot if the Broncos come through.

I don't want to start anything here, but you have to understand the officials were bad both ways.
BG's first TD was not a touchdown and the officials blew that call. Also, BG got a pass interference call on UT that gave BG a first and goal and then a TD when they would have been faced with a FG attempt. That is at least 11 points given to BG right there.
The one call you are talking about on BG I believe is the running into the punter call. If you are, at least it should have been a 5 yard penalty because there was contact. Even a 5 yard penalty would have given Toledo the first down on that play.
Just remember, the officials were bad both ways and there are just as many bad calls that went against UT that BG got.

I totally disagree. If you saw the replay, the punter fell down on his own volition and BG and UT players grazed him at most. The first TD was a TD and didn't even merit a challenge. The pass interference occured when BG was already in scoring range as opposed to when UT was at their own end and needed the call to keep a drive, and any possibility of scoring, alive. I'm glad you didn't dispute the holding and trust me, I have no desire to get into another posting war with you.rocketfootball wrote:I don't want to start anything here, but you have to understand the officials were bad both ways.

It was too damn cold to be standing out there while they were doing......what were they doing?JoeFalcon wrote:How about that 5 minute delay in the second half coming off a timeout? It was the only time in a 3+ hour game I agreed with Craig James.

they were apparently checking to see exactly where the ball should've been spotted.transfer2BGSU wrote:It was too damn cold to be standing out there while they were doing......what were they doing?JoeFalcon wrote:How about that 5 minute delay in the second half coming off a timeout? btw you got some good face time on tv a few minutes later when we scored a td. it looked like you were keeping warm in the falcon club tent.

That is what I thought as well. The scoreboard had the incorrect yardage on it at the end of the third quarter. It read 43 I believe. However, the guy who remains with the yard stick on the opposite side of the field was still standing on the 38 yard line which is where the referees correctly spotted the ball on the other side of the 50. I think the Toledo coaches must has seen the scoreboard and asked the referree to take a loot at it, so instead of trusting the guy on the chain crew, they wasted 3 minutes on a review.jacojdm wrote:they were apparently checking to see exactly where the ball should've been spotted.transfer2BGSU wrote:It was too damn cold to be standing out there while they were doing......what were they doing?JoeFalcon wrote:How about that 5 minute delay in the second half coming off a timeout? And to RF, that was a clear pass interference call, so shut your yapper.

The time my stepfather falls asleep in front of the TV and my mother doesn't watch sports and I get some facetime.jacojdm wrote:btw you got some good face time on tv a few minutes later when we scored a td. it looked like you were keeping warm in the falcon club tent.
Other than my feet being cold, I was fine (although you may have noticed that I had layered up - think I had six items under the Magner jersey).

grazing the punter is not allowed. you are not allowed to touch them at all. even if it was a 5 yarder it would've still been a first down. I'm not sure what holding call you're talking about but it may have happened. I look for holding when we're on defense, not offense and will say we probably did hold every now and then. I did notice BG holding a bunch of times too. come on, 4 quarters and 2 OTs and does anyone really think that only one person held the entire game? I don't. They didn't call alot of holding on you and they probably didn't call alot of holding on us, that is one of those very strange calls especially since anyone can tell you that holding happens on just about every play.JoeFalcon wrote:I totally disagree.
