Miami v. BG
Miami v. BG
Looks like a series of polar opposites this weekend. You guys score, we defend. Used to be the other way around, but should be an interesting series. We still have the best defenseman in the league in Andy Greene (I think he's been in school for 8 years) and some young blueliners that look promising. The goaltending has been excellent (sophomore Charlie Effinger will likely start Friday, freshman Jeff Zatkoff on Saturday), and so far, we're getting just enough scoring from our forwards. Nate Davis and Ryan Jones have been extremely good. They are both sophomores and our other big line includes juniors Matt Christie and Marty Guerin. Miami is expecting a sell out for Friday's game, but probably won't be as packed as usual with the students on break. I'd assume a similar situation at BG on Saturday?
Other than Matsumoto and Foster, who should we watch this weekend for the orange and brown?

Re: Miami v. BG
Given that Falk has scored more goals than either Matsumoto or Foster, I'd say that he'd be a good one to look out for. He doesn't get as much press as the other two due to the fact that his point total isn't quite up there because of his lack of assists. He has 10 goals and 1 assist so far this season. His goals production is tied for 4th in the nation.redhawk95 wrote:Looks like a series of polar opposites this weekend. You guys score, we defend. Others to watch for would be Unger and Pilkington. Neither have hit their stride yet this season but are more than capable of putting the puck in the net.
We also have a couple of nice scorers from the blue line to watch out for.
From my perspective, right now Horrell is the better goalie. He worked his ass off over the summer and is in the best shape of his career and it shows in net. All around he's the quicker of the two and seems to be the most mature in net (which stands to reason). Spratt will be a good goalie and is the future of the program but, again form my pov, isn't quite ready. He's shown some flashes of what he can become, but has been inconsistant.redhawk95 wrote:how's the goaltending holding up? i've seen some threads saying there's some difference of opinion on who should start.
Don't ask me who you'll see in net down in Miami, because I don't really know.

"Regarding BGSU, I would think their biggest strength is that they never give up, They never slow down and they battle hard even after the other team scores. We have to be on our game and never, ever take the foot off the gas for a second."

"BG was relentless. It's like they know that a good first pass on the breakout from a defenseman will almost always result in an odd-man rush against them - but they go in anyway and dare you to make that pass. All three of their goals were just grit and effort. That's a team any fan can be proud to support...they give all they've got."

As usual, the web feed for BGU isn't working, anyone got the Miami feed?
Check out our new BGSU hockey site: http://www.bgsuhockey.com
it's okay, Drew... collegesports.com's GameTracker doesn't even list BG playing this weekend at all!
