Yes, the attendance topic again.
Supposedly, there were only 17,438 in attendance last night. I realize that the corners of the stands were pretty empty, but it certainly seemed like more than 17,438. Upon reflection, about 70% capacity in the stands and some extras in the falcon club tent, boxes, and trailor with duct tape (I mean, portable something or other) sounds about right.
Anyway, considering the weather, I guess the turnout was O.K. Although, fans leave at the strangest times. Some at halftime, some after three quarters, some at the end of regulation (baffling), and some after the first OT (I could hardly believe that).

Maybe someone can actually ask, but I'm convinced we've changed the way we count.
I suspect that in previous years, the attendance we reported was tickets sold + students who walked through the game.
I suspect that for this year, BGSU is only counting people who show up.
It's just a theory. But I think it's worth checking out.
Every game I've been to this year, the reported attendance has been below what I would have guessed based on previous years.

Something is different. BG reported over 24,000 for the MAC championship game against Miami in 2003. I know there were more fans at the Doyt last night than there were at that MACC game.Schadenfreude wrote:Maybe someone can actually ask, but I'm convinced we've changed the way we count.

Well, you can see from the bottom picture that there is some open room in the corner (Northeast corner). I was sitting over there and there was a chunk of fairly open space. The same held true for the Northwest and Southwest corners. These corners weren't completely empty, but they were sparsely populated.

17,000.............
Was a shock to me. It looked more like 19,000 + at least. But oh well really cold windy weather = what our attendance is.
Mid-2000's Anderson Animal
Put ten layers of clothing on and people end up taking two seats instead of the usual one. Or in the case Amstutz and his family, three seats.
I was up in one of the suites on the east end and from my angle, the northwest (student section) and the southwest corner were sparse. But still a pretty good crowd.
Will say that some people left to avoid the traffic nightmare that awaited them on the way in on 75. I was headed south, so it wasn't as bad as those from points north. Also, a number of students that were in attendance also left early. If they didn't have off-campus living, some may have wanted to avoid an empty dorm last night. Don't blame them.
But I will give credit to those that came from two hours plus. I was headed back to C-bus, along with two others. Another couple was headed to Dayton (2.5 plus), and another couple was headed to C-land (2 plus).
