Looks like that is it for us.....
.....Akron is rolling over Kent State as many of us thought would happen and it looks like NIU and Akron are going to seal the deal at home with convincing wins. Our loss to UT left the door wide open for Akron to come in and it's also pretty amazing how many things fell into place for Akron over the last week as far as help is concerned.....CMU beating Ball State in OT, NIU beating UT, UT beating BG, NIU beating WMU, and then needing only to beat Kent State to seal the deal. If any of those games went the other way, BG gets in. This is exactly why you always want help from other team no matter how well you are playing. You could be 6-0 in the MAC and cruising, but you always hope for help. Akron is a perfect example of a team doing almost a minimum of what it could do itself, then getting the help it needed. Almost everything fell into place for it this last week. But the bottom line is, our loss to Akron hurt us more than anything. Every game counts. Good luck to Akron in the MACC, but I think NIU is going to beat them this time around.
GO BG!!!

For all of Akron's faults, think back to August. Now imagine someone telling you - "Akron is going to beat Northern Illinois, Bowling Green and Ohio."
I would have called that person a certifiable nutcase. Yet, they did just that, beat two teams they would have been expected to beat - Kent State and Buffalo and the rest, as they say, is history.
We can knock the Zips all we want, but they beat the teams they needed to beat. We didn't and, thus, don't deserve to be in the MACC game.

It really was a strange, strange year in the MAC and for BG. What hurts most is I really, really thought this was going to be BG's year to finally win a MAC Championship. Funny enough, the way the MAC East unfolded with some many teams chalking up losses, it actually did set up for us. But I really think our season took a turn that doomed us the play Omar got hurt on. I know we fought back at the end of the season to give ourselves a chance, but after that WMU game, I feared our season, not just the game, had taken a turn for the worse. Maybe we wouldn't have beaten WMU with Omar that day, but I feel almost certain we wouldn't have lost to Akron with him. I also think if Pope didn't fumble on the goal line, we also could have won. But that's all woulda, coulda, shoulda at this point.
Like you said '87alum, I also would have thought a person was crazy in the preseason if they told me Akron would win the East, especially with a 5-3 record in the MAC. If you would have told me Akron and Miami were going to finish 5-3, I'd have bet the house we would win the East. Then along comes Akron. I also would NEVER have thought we'd finish just 6-5 overall or go 1-3 at home vs. the MAC. Sadly, because of the expectations for this team - from everyone: players, coaches, fans, etc., - this is one of the toughest years to take. Had we done this in say 2001 or 2002, it would have been a good season. But in 2005, it was a major letdown.

Craziest year ever. Sometimes people say "one play doesn't really beat you". BG scores in five plays on WMU. Omar has BG at the WMU 30 in three plays next possesion for first down, Omar rolls, hit, fumbles, hurt............
That's a 14-0 game after seven minutes if he is able to avoid the play in some manner.
Akron has ZERO chance against against us the following week with Omar. None. Biggs is Biggs. After that, not enough there.
Can't turn back the clock. Absolutely SHOULD have played over and through the injury. And we simply did not. Not close. And it cost us very, very dearly. Just needed to step it up in all areas for Omar and good ol' BG- and we did not get it done until we put together a decent effort at Kent.
On to the Sebo groundbreaking and Wisconsin at Browns Stadium.
Go Falcons!
