Omar/Turner
Omar/Turner
We averaged 40 points in the 8 full games that Omar started and were 6-2 in those games. We averaged 17 points with Turner and were 1-2. Just some stats to pass along. However, I never thought Omar got his "swagger" back after that Boise game..just looked a little unsure and not the same QB that we saw last year and in the Wisconsin game this year. Still great numbers..just not "Omaresque."

I think maybe not winning the MAC might have been a blessing in disguise. I honestly think winning the conference is Omar's #1 goal before he finishes his days in the orange and brown.
Looking around the draft, I think he'd be best to stick around one more year.

Not so fast guys. Omar may be a 3rd rounder this year. Could he really do any better after next season against all the talent there is in the national Junior class?
Let's think about it -- it's hard to believe that the offense won't take a step back next year. Pope and Lane, gone. Sharon and Sanders, gone. Warren, gone. That's a lot of offensive talent to replace to try and gel with the new guys. Our offense is all about timing, and we've seen that Omar relies on anticipating receivers movements and leading them out of their breaks. He's going to have a very hard time doing that with a bunch of freshman and sophomore receivers.
Let's also think about the schedule. There's a decent to good chance we get a big donut against the big 3 OOC games on our schedule. Ohio State and Wisconsin would both be major, major upsets given both teams' situations next year. Boise State always has a good team, even though we'll be out for revenge. If I had to decide right now what would happen early next year, I'd say we struggle big time out of the gate.
I'm not nearly ready to cash in the season next year. I think we could still be a solid team, mainly because I still think the defense is coming around. But our offense will be worse next year. Omar could go from a 3rd rounder to Harris territory just as easily as he went from a first to a third rounder this year.
I am all for Omar staying and getting his degree, but if I'm in walking a mile in his dreads, I'm putting serious feelers out to the NFL.

My guess is that NFL scouts have already pretty much made up their minds on Omar. They will make their decision mainly on his talent, not the players surrounding Omar or BG's record.
Look at Charlie Frye last year. He didn't have a lot of talent surrounding him, yet this didn't prevent him from being a solid draft choice.

True, Although Frye did slip his senior season.
All I'm saying is that Omar would be hard pressed to improve his draft status by staying. From a purely business standpoint*, why stay and risk injury if you have nothing to gain?
*Of course I realize that many factors will weigh into his decision.

In retrospect, the best thing for his draft status would have been to come out after last season. I think the question depends on Omar. How much more is in there? Can he raise his game, and carry a team with lesser receivers? Can he find it in himself to be even more effective and more confident with less talent? Can he spend the off-season shoring up his weaknesses under pressure? If he can, I think he can still make his stock go up. But he's going to have to dig deep--as we all do, from time to time.
i dont blame omar for not looking the same after the boise game. How many dropped balls did he have in that game? The problem on offense early this year was dropped balls.
Seems like coaches also slowed the O down to help out the defense. That was quite noticeable. The offense didn't seem to click until there was 5 minutes left in any quarter.

Omar: To go pro or not to go pro?
I for one hope that Omar stays cuz we'll need someone to give our offense a chance. I not sold on AT right now as it stands. I just don't think he's ready for primetime yet. Turner could use another year of grooming and that could only help in my opinon. Cuz Omar goes and unless AT ups his game considerably in the passing game our offense is not going to be much to speak about at all.
Mid-2000's Anderson Animal
Assuming Vince Young does declare, Omar would be the #3 QB prospect in next year's draft if he declared. The 2nd best senior QB, Jay Cutler, doesn't look like he's going to pass Omar. Omar is at worst a 2nd round pick right now. If a team falls in love with him and Young either slips or doesn't declare, Omar would likely be a 1st round pick.

Not sure where you're getting your info, but Mel Kiper has him at 6-7 among QB prospects. Cutler is definitely ahead of Omar at this point.

his yardage is good, but has a sub 60 completion percentage, and about a 2:1 td:int ratio.
