BG/Oakland Prediction

Post by BGSU33 »

Oakland simply beat the crap out of us last year, I think we shot under 30% from the field for the game if I remember correctly. And despite not having a good regular season, Oakland turned in a very good year and went to the NCAA Tournament after a great run in their conference tournament. They suffered some key losses this past offseason, but have loaded up on some transfers again and landed some kids from Ohio State, Rutgers and Wright State. The kid from Rutgers has been playing very well early on but the other two transfers I believe aren't eligible until after this semester. None the less, I haven't heard if Wright or Dusan are healthy, but I hope we can come back strong at home and get a D-I home win under our belts. A win here would give us our first winning record of the season and a much needed boast for all the away games we have coming up.

Oakland - 58
BG - 61

We will have our hands full with Oakland. There is always extra incentive for this game since Coach Kampe played for the Falcons and applied for the job. I have also heard that one of our freshman has been ruled eligible. Not sure when he is able to play.

If you are talking about Lionel Sullivan, he is ineligible and will redshirt this season. Hopefully, you are not talking about someone else.

It must be and I hope its Moten. I saw him walking around the AA during the last ladies b-ball with St. Francis and he's looks like a 6'2 or 6'3 athletic shooting guard to me. We'll need all of our althetic guys playing for sure. Can't forget Wright as well. Hope he and Lefeld are healthy for Oakland.

I hope it's not Moten and that is Sullivan like stated above. We already know Sullivan is out for the year and last I heard Moten "might" be able to make grades after the first semester. But I'm not holding my breath. The shame of the matter is, those two guys are two of our best recruits.

The original post said "ruled eligible", not ineligible. This probably refers to Moten, and it would therefore be fairly old info. We have known that Moten will be available for the 12/17 game. Not "might be", WILL be. According to the Sentinal article (linked by bgsufalcons.com), he HAS NOT been practicing in the meantime, so who knows when he'll see start seeing the floor.

Thanks for clearing that up, I misread the post. That would be great news if Moten is good to go then. I guess we'll see soon enough.

Oakland roughed up Duquesne by 24 points tonight....they'll come to town with a 3-1 record.

I'd say Oakland is pretty hard to judge right now. They are 3-1, but one win was over the Notre Dame we play in December, and their wins over St. Peters and Duquesne are against teams which don't appear to be very strong. Duquesne is one of the lowest ranked teams in D-I, based on Sagarin. They also lost to Albany on a neutral floor.

They were also picked sixth in their own conference's pre-season poll.

Not saying its a give me--our team has no gimmes! But, there's nothing to show this isn't a winnable game for us.

I agree. Oakland's hard to guage, but then again, many D1 teams are hard to guage this time of year. This game will be revealing. It will be our first home game against reasonable competition, and our young team will have had 3 more weeks of practice since it's last games (unless you count Urbana, which I consider an exhibition).

There has been so much talk of youth, eligibility, and injuries around here, we get distracted from one simple point: the players that we actually put on the floor are good players.

I wish DD would get back on his blog and keep us posted on Wright, Rad, & Moten. It's arduous being a fan of this program, sometimes.
