You don't suppose the dark side of the IT fraternity has infiltrated "The Blade" to wind anyone up? Am I missing something?
The sage among you will say this is good for MAC exposure. Very sage. Meanwhile, I'm struggling to grasp this little gem... I'm struggling... Meaning of life..

I think this is a good choice for the GMAC Bowl. Toledo will travel, plus they have a 8-3 record. If the GMAC waited until Thurs or Fri to see who won the MACC game they may have the same result. NIU beats Akron, then Akron is 6-6. Akron wins then NIU is 7-5. These bowls are all about making money! Remember NCAA stands for Make As Much Money As Possible. Toledo will put on a good show. Now the MACC is win and you go to the MCB, lose and the season is over. The way it should be. Let's face it the MAC was way down this year. Do we really want to see 3 MAC teams in a Bowl?
No. It all makes sense now. Were it not for the sage opinions on this board to help me understand, I might have choked. Now I feel completely wholesome, and glad to see Tuh...., no, Tuhl..., bother, to see them get what we got last year.OSUFALCON wrote:.... Let's face it the MAC was way down this year. Congrats to Toledo, they deserved it and earned a trip to the GMAC Bowl. The fact if the matter is, no matter what you think about Toledo, over the last seven or eight years, they always seem to be right in the thick of things for post season play. They get to bowl games and have won some MAC titles in recent years, and their program is a measuring stick for many MAC teams. BG has had some recent success, but Toledo has just been the better program lately in the entire league. I hope we can build the type of program that is playing in the postseason as often as Toledo here at BG. They just always seems to find ways to get it done by having good regular seasons and then play in the MACC or a bowl game.
GO BG!!!
Well put. As I've said before, I dislike Toledo, but have to respect them for what they've accomplished.BGSU33 wrote:Congrats to Toledo, they deserved it and earned a trip to the GMAC Bowl. No doubt, they just find ways to win year after year and always seem to get the job done. Despite not liking Toledo as a school, I do like the way they always seem to play with the attitude of "play to win" and not the "playing not to lose" that so many teams display.1987alum wrote:Well put. For those that don't understand the GMAC invite, think about this.
Two MAC schools went 6-2 in the conference and all others are 5-3 or worse. Those two schools are Toledo and NIU. We are in the same division so we can't play each other in the MACC. NIU beat us and got the bid to the MACC game. The GMAC has to get their tickets sales going because the game is 3 weeks from Wednesday. They can't wait to see if NIU loses in the MACC game. If NIU wins the MACC they are going to the MCB and Akron is not bowl eligible at 6-6 so Toledo would be the team for them to invite anyway. Toledo is going to travel pretty well also.
The MCB is praying that NIU wins, because they don't want Akron and their 500 fans coming to the MCB. That's just life though. The MCB has said before that they would like to always get the MAC Champion if possible. The GMAC really wanted Toledo and since UT beat BG and the Rockets have the best overall record in the MAC at 8-3 it makes the most sense.
Finally, the GMAC can interest locals by promoting this as the last game for UT senior QB Bruce Gradkowski who has been talked up by ESPN just like Omar Jacobs. The locals make up a good part of the GMAC crowd and this type of a promotion on a solid QB is good.
Next year BG will have the same promotion chance with Omar Jacobs and could steal a bowl bid even if they are not in the MACC Game.
It's about money and ticket sales. And a QB that is known nationally will sell tickets for the GMAC. Toledo has played in the MCB 4 of the last 5 years and the MCB really wanted another school for a change anyway. It's always been Marshall, Toledo, and BG once in the MCB. No one else from the MAC has had that MCB chance.

And since BG will be sitting home, I hope it is UT and NIU representing the MAC in bowls this year. I believe they are the MAC's two best teams and I hope they both win bowl games if they go. Despite the fact Akron beat BG and that I took a few classes there myself before going to BG, I hope they don't beat NIU and represent the MAC because I don't think the Zips are very good. I fully believe 100 percent if Omar was healthy, we'd have pounded Akron. I know they already beat NIU once, but I don't think they'll do it again. But, that's why they play the games.
GO BG!!!

Wolfe played against Akron.....he didn't get hurt until later in the season. NIU had trouble with the run early in the game and went to the passing game and found out you could throw the ball against Akron. NIU had like 450 yards passing that game. Problem was that NIU's defense didn't show up to play. Akron won the game 48-42 in OT.....or was it 49-42?Jacobs4Heisman wrote:Didn't they beat a wolfe-less NIU? We all have to be rooting for NIU to win the MACC Game. Akron can't get anyone to come to their own home games, much less travel to Detroit. If Akron wins the MACC there will be like 500 Akron fans at the MCB, meaning the locals are going to have to support the bowl game.BGSU33 wrote:And since BG will be sitting home, I hope it is UT and NIU representing the MAC in bowls this year. I can't even imagine this MACC Game Thursday night. There will probably be about 7-8K in attendance, mostly NIU fans and locals.

One problem that may effect Toledo travel to this game is that there is next to no hotel rooms available in the Mobile area thanks to all the displaced hurricane victims.
My Toledo buddy said that UT it not even chartering a flight to the game because Mobile cannot even guarantee them enough hotel rooms for the people on the plane.
Anyone going will have to be willing to either arrive immediately before the game and leave right after the game or drive a long distance to an available hotel room.

I've wondered about that myself. Someone from Mobile has posted on the UT board giving us a list of about 6 or 7 hotels that have occupancy right now. It's going to be a mad scramble to see who can get those hotel reservations first and to see who is going to be left out. Another possibility though is to drive or fly to Atlanta and stay. Then drive about 4-5 hours to Mobile the day of the game and go back to your hotel in Atlanta that night and drive back or fly to Toledo the next day.Redwingtom wrote:One problem that may effect Toledo travel to this game is that there is next to no hotel rooms available in the Mobile area thanks to all the displaced hurricane victims.
